Question by : Can i have some opinions on my latest short story (FIRST PARAGRAPHS)?
I’m in the process of writing a selection of short stories for self publication. Please, all constructive criticism welcome.

The feeling was other worldly. Despite the filthy and dangerous conditions that surrounded him, the allure was hauntingly addictive. The numbness in his arms and legs and the palpitations surrounding his veins were keeping him attached to the stained, worn out mattress he was lying on. He had been there so many times before, but every time was like his first. It was part of the reason why he always came back for more, no matter how hard he felt he was trying, heroin would always be his mistress.
Yet, as the minutes ticked by seeming like hours, Jimbo knew exactly what he was doing and this was the outcome he desired. He wanted to stop the abuse, but he never had the energy or desire to actually do something about it. Just like at school when he was top of his class in almost every subject, then the moment he moved up a level and had real responsibilities, it was just easier to start falling in with the wrong crowd and forgetting everything else that mattered. When you’re shielded from all the difficulties of living in the real world and only have to worry about getting up for school in the morning, it make’s it even more difficult to cope when you have to go out and think for yourself. Jimbo hadn’t always been a waster, but it seemed almost inevitable that one day it would turn out this way for him.
He was living a squatter’s life in a run down estate in Croydon with two other useless, low life society rejects. He didn’t even know who they were, they just happened to turn up one day and found their way in through one of the broken windows. It may have bothered him if he wasn’t in so much of a stupor to really give a damn. It wasn’t hard to find him, just follow the smell to the scummiest estate in the worse area of town and look for the flat with “DiE JUNkie” spray painted across the front door.
