Drug and Alcohol PSA Commercial (for a Scholarship Contest)
For a college scholarship, I was required to make a 30 second anti-drug and alcohol commercial that was targeting middle school viewers. I could win 00 dollars towards school if this wins. I had my family do the acting, so it may seem low budget, but I still tried my best to be thought provoking. A lot of my shots and angles have special meanings and metaphors, see if you can catch them!

I’ve been puffing reefer for years and I wouldn’t advocate driving on it. Mabye a short distance early in the morning before other cars are on the road, but not in peak hour or on the freeway. You get distracted too easily and your reaction times are down.
I’m pretty sure at least half of the people who have cut me off or driftted into my lane in the past year are ‘smoke weed everyday’ type stoners.

@how3owl Most pot smokers learn to supress symptoms of inehbriation, if you’re a new user you shouldn’t drive, go into areas of heavy traffic, operate heavy machinery etc, experienced users however can do all these things, sometimes even better, the negative image associated with pot makes people fail to see that many successful people around them who smoke, sometimes even on a daily basis, responsible smokers go unrecognized simply due to associated stereotypes.

One thing. Alcohol is a drug so when you abuse alcohol you are already abusing a drug. The continued use of the term “drugs and alcohol” is intenionally misleading to make alcohol seem more acceptable.

@Malakian720 The message is pretty simple. DO NOT let drugs take control of your life. It’s not necessarily the fact that a drug exists that is the issue, it’s that a lot of people don’t understand how to control themselves while using them and in fact begin to lose themselves. I’ve lost friends too. I have friends heading towards death right now. Smoking pot won’t kill you. That’s not even the problem. Relying on a drug, however, and letting it run your life is the problem.

Too much water in your body will internally drown you (which has happened to alot of these E fanatics), too much of anoything will fuck your shit up. @MichaelSirois If this is about pot, you have lost all of my respect. But if this is about the REAL issue about drugs, I salute you. I lost my friend last summer to exactly this shit. And if there was any way I could turn back time to help him, I would. But his death was a valuable lesson for me, and should be for everyone. Drugs just make everything worse even though it feels good, we die a little inside everytime we take a hit…

Michael, I loved the message. It was short & directly to the point. It wasn’t lecturing and certainly would attract a young audience as well as adults especially parents. Your equipment actually made it quite good, I thought. Your sister was also a great spokesperson. A job well done!!!

It’s OK for you to be anti-drugs and anti-alcohol. However, it is not OK for the government to charge into a person’s home for doing something to his/her own body that does not harm anyone else. This is called LIBERTY! And, if you’re going to be “anti” anything, you should be anti-alcohol. Alcohol messes people up in a way pot never, never, ever does. I speak from experience!

And one last thing: I didn’t win the competition. I didn’t think I would anyway because at the time I didn’t have great equipment and the winners of the scholarship in the previous years seemed to have professional gear. Also, the music was done by me (for those of you who asked).

Secondly, thanks for everyone who likes it. I made it when I was much younger and a lot less skillful with film direction, but my family seems to like it. The only reason I uploaded it wasn’t to showcase my work but rather to please my family and friends who wanted to see it. YouTube makes things easier.
