Question by April O: Can a night of binge drinking cause High heart rate the next day?
Male, 40, pacemaker put in three months ago. Got high blood pressure and taking med for that.

Best answer:

Answer by TRACY M
you shouldnt be binge drinking as it will only do the liver damage, and your body could shut down if you do this all the time, you would be better sticking to having no more than 2-3 drinks a day as supposed to drinking loads at the weekend.

Question by : Why not give up on life, what’s the point?
So I’ve been suffering from severe depression/social anxiety for about 2 years now and everyday is just hell. I literally lay on the couch all day(sleep there too),and by all day I mean ALL day. I go months without leaving the house and on the rare occasion I do leave it’s to go for a walk at like 2am just so no one is around. For whatever reason i’m terrified of having people see or talk to me.
I constantly have homicidal/suicidal thoughts and I know if I had a gun I would be the person you hear about on the news who goes on a shooting spree. I know it’s wrong but I don’t feel like I have compassion for anyone or thing. I’m a truly bad person and understand why no one would want to be around me, i’m quiet but, I go off alot and when I do I it’s terrible.
So i’ll tell you a little about my upbringing, was born to two alcoholics/drug addicts. Enjoying those five years of my life then my dad got clean and moved my sister and I to NY(where his family is from) and my mom stayed behind because heroin/crack where the most important things to her. We struggled to get by as my dad was a single parent working his ass off on a farm for little money and we constantly moved around and we switched schools just about every few months. My sister and I went to so many schools we lost track and some schools we went to 2-3 different times. Once every few years my dope sick mom would come and live with us but she would barely stay long even to get clean and would move back to baltimore for her life of drugs and no responsibilities. She eventually moved back here for good and was clean kind of. She had a baby girl and had complications during labor which resulted in back injuries so to cope they gave a junkie pills, became addicted and also started smoking crack again.
I was kicked out for the last time the day before my 18th birthday lol and got my life together, had my own apartment, full time job and life was good. Recession hit and I was layed off. Survived on unemployment for awhile but eventually the bills got to be to much and was forced to move. Can’t stay with my dad because his gf and I don’t get along plus he lives in another state and I haven’t seen or talked to him in months. Had to stay at my moms and still here. I live in a town where no one is hiring but why would anyone hire a high school dropout with bad people skills anyways? I’m broke(have ) my mom has spent the last few weeks at her bf house and there’s not even food in the house, haven’t ate in two days.
So I ask why not give up? What would you do if you where in my shoes?

PLEASE NO JESUS FREAKS I despise everything about religion.

Best answer:

Answer by Binkz B
i know you say you despise everything about religion..but really you do need to pray and ask for the strength to get by. i know you may not love/believe in god, but he is still there to help you!

Question by : Title for my book, anyone?
So, recently I’ve been writing a book about a 17 year old junkie with a timid, pathetic, but very wealthy mother, clinical depression and a very cynical/sarcastic outlook on life. His name is Jason. In August his mother drags him along to an alumni dinner for her and he meets a girl named Ellie, who, although a few years younger than himself, is very intriguing (not Pollyanna or Lolita intriguing, she’s really just annoying at first). He hates her upon their first meeting, where she describes herself as a “narcissist” and a “nymph”, but he ends up calling her again later and becomes “infatuated” with her.
Three weeks pass, and it’s almost Jason’s birthday. On the day before, Jason is with Ellie and she is listing all the things he’ll be able to do once he’s of age, and mentions that they won’t be able to be in their “relationship” anymore, because she’s only 14. That night, Ellie calls up Jason, is crying, and tells him to meet her at the park. When he arrives, she is flaming with anger and beats him up, then leaves. Reverting back to his old escape from reality, which is drugs, Jason overdoses on Heroin and passes out in the street. He describes the experience, after passing out, as “being flushed down a tunnel of sticky red towards a white light, intimidating but perfect for [him]“.
Jason has a foggy experience of waking in the hospital with doctors around him, but it varies between this scene and the one with the white light. The doctors say that he’ll be alright, but not wanting to have to deal with the pain of living, he wills himself to die. He falls down a “rabbit hole”, so to speak, and when he emerges from the other end, he has been reincarnated.
The years pass and we find he has been born as a pretty, hopeful young girl. There is still a presence of his original self, however, though it is less strong as it was when he was in his own head. Then in August, the girl’s parents take her to an alumni dinner, where she meets a dark teenage boy,

“Hi, I’m Ellie.”

I know that was an incredibly long synopsis (especially for such a simple question), and most of it was unnecessary…whoops :/
Anyway, if you have an idea as to what I should call it, please leave any suggestions below :3

Best answer:

Answer by Sarah
You could call it Ellie simply. Or hi I’m Ellie or something about ellie

Question by mybestfriendeleida: Is there anything I can do? I feel so useless.?
My cousin is a heroin (or former) addict and he’s over the age of 18 already. His parents, our whole family, has been doing and trying everything and I mean EVERYTHING! to help him stop and live his life again and have a good future. Now it seems he’s stopped after going to rehab twice but, a while back he told his parents he refused to stay in the rehab place to make sure he wouldn’t go back to drugs. Well, they couldn’t force him to stay being an adult and all. So everyone is wishing the best for him while he goes and lives with this friend he met at the rehab place who also was a junkie, but sometimes I have this bad feeling about something happening and maybe that he isn’t really okay. I was never really close to him honestly and he was always such a quiet guy (until he started using which I sort of liked that he was talking more now). But he has the kindest heart I have ever seen!!!! My mom called him on his cell a few days back to see how he was doing but…..nothing. I just want to get more involved and know more about where he is and if he’s okay and maybe hang out with him sometime just so I could feel a little important and tell him how I feel.(But that’s pretty much impossible for soooooooo many reasons!) Well is there anything that I can do in my part to show him I love him???????

Best answer:

Answer by Carol
If you want to get more involved why not volunteer at your local rehab clinic, if they accept volunteers. Your cousin may not want people to know where he is or if he’s okay because he may be trying to get himself back on his feet, get a job and do something with himself.

I also wonder if your feelings for him have not so much to do with him per se, but more to do with you.

Answer by Jennifer M
You have to call 911!!!

Under age or NOT .. IF SOMETHING HAPPENS TO HIM YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE!!!

Your body gets rid of alcohol through the lungs.. and he may be having a reaction!!!

His parents love him and would rather have him alive.. He will be forgiven

ARE YOU CALLING???

Question by joey22: Night sweats symptom of HIV?
I will just say that I am soo worried that I contracted HIV about 5 months ago. I am a heroin addict, and had never used a dirty needle ever. But about 5 months ago i bought what i thought was a new needle, but after using it realized it might have been rewrapped and sold to me by someone who already used it, and they were a down and out street junkie. So since then i have been so paranoid. anyway I havnt had any symptoms except maybe a sore throat here and there, but about 6 days ago i started having night sweats, and every night I wake up with a soaking bed. Never had them before in my life. Is this a symptom, because from what I have read you either get a flu like thing in the first few weeks, or after several years, so is it possible that these night sweats are hiv? I a going to get tested this week, just was wating to near 6 months. Oh and just to add it just so happens I have finally gotten clean and sober and working now for 3 weeks, and now this! so scared i ruined my life. any thoughts would be great!

Best answer:

Answer by LINDA R
HIV rarely has symptoms soon after infection, but some people do have flu-like symptoms. Others have no symptoms for several years, until the immune system is severely damaged. It is POSSIBLE that your symptoms are related to HIV, but you could also be having physical symptoms as a result of stress or another illness. See your doctor. Getting tested for HIV 6 months after exposure is a good idea, since in very rare cases, it can take up to 6 months for the antibodies to show up on the test. You should also be tested for Hep C, if you have not been tested for Hep C recently.
I’m glad you are sober now, and wish you well in your recovery.

Question by Mike Fields: Is Alcoholism Really a Disease?
Best as I understand it, the idea that alcoholism is a “disease” comes from the popular 12-Step methods (such as Alcoholics Anonymous) so lauded for their ability to help sufferers of alcoholism. But also, best as I understand it, 12-Step programs are made up. Support groups with no science back them up and have a ridiculously high failure rates.

So you often get (and I believe this was parodied on South Park once) people living their lives with utter reckless abandon, hurting family members left and right, and blaming their behavior on the horrible “disease” of alcoholism that renders them helpless to change. I’ve heard people describe their alcoholism as if it’s something comparable to cancer or MS, something completely beyond their control for which they must always suffer and for which we ought to feel sorry for.

So I’m curious what you all think about it. Is Alcoholism really a disease?
