Question by Liza M: Has anyone who was a heroin addict ever successfully detoxed & stayed clean for a significant amount of time?
I was a junkie for over 8 years off & on. I would kick then go back over & over again. I could never stay clean for any real length of time, I always seemed to need something even if it was just pot or drinking liquor. It seems looking back that I have been high most of my life( sad as that is) here I am just days away from my 30th birthday & I really want to be done with that whole scene however, I feel as though I am cheating because I’m doing methadone maintnance & for some reason that feels like cheating to me like an easy way out. However, I am clean other then the methadone & I haven’t been able to do that like……ever so I do feel sort of good about it but like I said not as good as if I were doing it with nothing. I just wish I could feel this good without taking anything.I guess I’m just one of those people who always needs something. Are there any ex-junkies out there who are doing well without useing anything?

How to Clean and Take Care of Wicker Furniture
Jan 5th
Wicker furniture is easy to clean and will help it look great year after year. It can withstand moisture to a certain extent, but will become limp, loose and saggy with too much moisture. The good thing is that it has remarkable ability to recover and put up normal growth arc released from stress either through rainfall or irrigation.
Wicker furniture can be used inside or outside if it is placed under a protective overhang, such as a patio with an awning. Great tools to keep around for cleaning it include tooth brushes, vegetable brush, paint brush or similar implement.
Heat can dry out furniture and cause it to crack or flake. You can occasionally wipe it down with a damp sponge and this will help restore moisture.
Wicker furniture must be dusted regularly to keep it in good condition. To remove surface dust, regularly vacuum wicker using the soft bristle brush attachment. Use a damp sponge and only wash it with a mix of water and mild detergent. After that wipe off with a soft damp cloth.
Perhaps once a year or every other year, raw wicker may need complete washing. Use a quick splash of water to rinse the piece.
Mildew can develop on your wicker , remove it with a mild bleach and water cleaning solution. After drying you should not use your furniture for a day or two because when the wicker is wet it could dry in the wrong position if sat on. Apply a coat of varnish to bring out the natural colour of the wicker.
If the finish on your wicker furniture needs refreshing, it’s a good idea to paint it. If the wicker has been painted previously, you most probably will not be able to get it back to its unique color. Apply a liquid paint stripper to the piece of furniture. You will need some stripper liquid to soften the wicker. Be sure to scrub off all traces of the stripper using a stiff-bristle brush dipped into detergent and water.
After that spray the furniture with a spray paint. You can paint wicker furniture to match the décor of any room in your house.
A Heads up on How to Clean Laminate Floors
Jan 5th
Without much trouble, you too can show off the fact that you know how to clean laminate floors. You’ll have some tips for your neighbor when it’s their turn to rip up those old carpets and replace them with something durable and easy to maintain.
Like any other specialty flooring, you’ll want to make sure that you don’t spill great quantities of water or other liquids on it. After all, you’ve spent time and money getting it in, so you don’t want to have to replace it just yet.
Next, you want to find a product that is specifically made for your type of flooring. You don’t want something that’s going to scratch it or take off the finish. Some products come in highly concentrated formulas, which mean that you can test out the proper solution for the job. Think about it. If your floor just needs a little touch up, then you don’t need to use as much, while you’ll need a little more cleaning action for those tougher spills and scuff marks.
The same product might also be safe to use on several different kinds of floor surfaces. If it can multitask around the house, so can you. Prepare a plan ahead of time so you can avoid backtracking.
While you’re at it, look for something that’s easier on the environment. It’ll be that much easier on your conscience, perhaps even your family’s health, when it comes right down to it. That’s worth the investment.
No matter what you pick, make sure you test it on a small, inconspicuous spot before using it on the whole floor.
If you’re still wondering just how to clean laminate floors, you can always check with the manufacturer or try the store where you made your purchase. They should have some ideas for products that they’ve tested. Remember to check the scent, to make sure it’s not going to cause you any grief.
When mopping, work logically from one end of the room to the other, allowing for a safe way to the door, for you, the mop, and the bucket. Don’t walk over your work.
After you mop, make sure to take the time to rinse off your floor, with a little water, frequently. This will help to keep the surface looking its best. Then let it dry on its own to help avoid streaking.
Try opening a window or turning on your air filtering system. It might help dry that floor even faster too, if that’s your goal.
Perhaps you have other plans for that in-between time as the floor dries. Take a moment for yourself before placing the furniture and accessories back into position. Make sure to bend your knees and carefully lift those pieces of furniture, rather than dragging them, across your nice, clean floor!
So, now that you’ve got a better handle on how to clean laminate floors, you can prepare your own handy floor cleaning tip sheet for the gal next door. She’ll appreciate the advice.
Clean Windows Just Like The Pros
Jan 4th
Who wants clean windows? ME ME ME ME ME! Who wants to pay for them? Booooo! Who wants to learn the easy way to clean glass that professionals use every day? We all do. Face it, nobody enjoys spraying a dirty window down with the typical blue glass “cleaner”. You know what I mean. Step one, spray on glass. Step two, smear dirt all over your window. Step three, finish with streaks and a lot of frustration. End the insanity. Here is the professional method used by glass cleaners around the world and all you need are a few simple tools.
We have all been to the gas station and cleaned our windshield with a squeegee and sponge combo sitting in dirty stagnant water. Thats NOT what you need. Go to your local hardware store get a standard 14″ squeegee, a five gallon bucket, and a glass scrubber or a large sponge. That’s all you need to buy. Now, let the fun begin.
Fill the bucket with 2 gallons of water. Add 2 tablespoons of household dish soap such as Dawn to the water. Be sure to add the soap second to reduce excess suds. Soak you glass scrubber or sponge and wipe down the window. Take a clean dry cloth and wipe dry the top inch of the class and the left inch of the glass (if you are left handed dry the right edge of the glass). Hold your squeegee vertically at the top of the glass in the dry strip to the left (if left handed hold squeegee to the right). Make sure that the top end of your squeegee is resting in the dry strip at the top of your glass. Pull your squeegee horizontally across the glass. Repeat squeegeeing making sure to keep the top one to two inches of your squeegee in the dry area as to prevent streaking. Once the entire pane has been squeegeed off, wipe all of the edges and the frame with a clean dry cloth or chamois to remove any excess water. Now step back and take a look. You will be amazed at how clean your window is and most importantly how easy it was to do.
If you have windows that are dangerous to access I do recommend you hire a professional like. Clean windows are nice but not worth broken bones.
An Insight into Crime Scenes Clean up Services
Jan 2nd
Crime scene cleanup companies also clean unattended deaths, damaged environments due to tear gas, and other crime and distress scenes. The larger crime scenes that involve mass murder scenes, terrorist attacks and anthrax and other biochemical damage is also taken care by these companies. Crime Scene Cleanup services may also include bird and rodent infested areas. The cleaners in this case require special experience and equipment than a typical cleaning company’s experience and equipment.
Typically, crime scene cleanups start taking place only after the coroner’s office and other government bodies releases the “scene” back to the owner or some other responsible person concerned with it. The cleaning task can not begin till the police investigation is completely finished on the contaminated scene.
In most cases crime scene cleanup is a small business activity. Mostly, small cleaning services like carpet cleaning or water damage companies add services for Crime Scene Cleanup for diversifying their activities. The prominent and recognized organizations in this field of cleaning consist of the Institute of Inspection, Cleaning, and Restoration Certification (IICRC) and the American Bio-recovery Association (ABRA).
Earlier crime scene cleanup was a loathsome job but today it has become a lucrative business. Crime scene cleanup companies can charge anywhere between $100 to $600 per hour depending on the “level of trauma” and the quantity of hazardous material that the cleaners have to deal with and dispose of.
While a crime clean up service is ultimately a business like any other, advertising and marketing your services can be tricky. In a job that involves tragic death; most companies avoid mainstream methods of advertisement. Some choose the standard phone-book route while many others advertise on the side of their vans. Most of these companies largely depend on discreet options like passing out their business cards at service-industry gatherings, police stations and funeral homes.
An important requirement for success in this industry involves being considerate towards the sensitive nature of the work. There are certain crime scene clean-up companies that provide a grief counselor to the families at no cost while others offer discount to needy people. There are many countries where this type of service is funded by government or by religious organizations.
While some people call this emerging field a social trend of commercializing death, others call it plain capitalism. But for many others it still remains an essential service, a godsend. The fact is that whether you like it or loathe it but if you ever end up with blood and brains splashed all over your bedroom walls, you will definitely be relieved that there is someone you can call to clean it up.
