When Do You Need to Consult a Sex Counselor?

Sex counseling is the guidance given to either man, woman or both by a sex therapist. Couples generally ask questions on family planning, conception, infertility, fear of failure in performance, unresponsiveness, sexual anatomy and physiology and technique of intercourse.

If you have sex problems or marital problems with sex, get help and advice from sex counselors or therapists. They can help you solving sex problems, impotence and frigidity.

When you may need a sex advice:

For Men: if you ejaculate too soon, if you have low sex drive all the time, if you have difficulty maintaining an erection or if you have an intensive interest in pornography.

For Women: you avoid sexual activity or if you have difficulty achieving an orgasm.

Many couples visit to the counselors to take advice on various contraception methods. It is always advised to consult a counselor or doctor before using contraceptive pills. These pills contain the female hormones estrogen and progesterone. They are designed to prevent ovulation by stopping the ova (eggs) from maturing in the ovaries. As it contains powerful hormones which interrupt the normal monthly cycle, women should only take it under medical supervision. The doctor can keep a look at on its side effects.

Some couples query on sterilization – whether it will be suitable for them or not. Sterilization is a permanent method of contraception for both men and women. It makes the person sterile so they cannot start a baby.

In male sterilization, sperm cannot travel into the man’s urethra and out of his penis. After this operation, the man can still have erection, ejaculate and enjoy sex but the only difference is that now his semen contains no sperms. It is a very tiny operation taking only about 15 minutes. Governments of many countries are encouraging this method of family planning.

In female sterilization, there is closing off both fallopian tubes so that ova cannot travel into the uterus. This means that the women cannot get pregnant. But she still has menstruation and she can enjoy sex in the same way that she did before sterilization.

This method is only suitable for those who are absolutely sure that they don’t want any more children and that they won’t change their mind later on.
