Question by Chloe: Can you have this close a relationship with a male and not be dating him?
I am 25 and am best friends with my male friend, we grew up together coming from almost the same childhood life of drugs etc. Unlike his parents my dad is a junkie just released from jail & my mom is an ex heroin addict who almost OD’ed when i was younger. Both him & i had drug problems also but i got a brilliant job and am 100% clean, he is still using on & off, i help him as much as i can. I can tell him anything and we are almost everywhere together. Sometimes when i go to the friends house he lives in instead of sleeping in the living room with the other visitors i’ll sleep in his bed with him but we have never had sex. We can get changed in front of one another and think nothing of it. When we are out with friends & we are walking anywhere, if i fall behind he will wait for me and take my hand and hold it and keep me beside him. I’ll sit beside him on a chair or on his knee or he’ll mess about and trow his arms around me alot. He always has my back and is always there when i need him & is protective of me and i love him to bits. I think i might be developing feelings for him but i don’t want to act on them and risk losing him as i cant imagine my life without him in it. Can you have a relationship with a male like this and not be with him?

Absolutely, you can. You are being cautious with pursuing the relationship, which can be very smart. If you value your friendship, which it sounds like you do. Smart move. Good friends like that are hard to come by.

If you get to that level of comfort with someone it is definitely possible. He’s just your best friend that is a guy.. A lot of people find that in someone whether it be a best friend or a lover. I think it’s totally normal.

I think that you can have a relationship like that with him, but not be with him. I think its brilliant how you are so close with him, and that you can get changed in front of him without feeling uncomfortable etc.

Yes, of course you can do all this. It’s not a bad thing. It’s probably healthy to have a guy bud you can lean on. And if anyone has a problem with this, just blow them off.
