I don’t.
People know what they are doing and they can stop it if they have enough willpower. Whether it’s through help or just by them alone.

How will binge drinking (excess of 5 drinks) two times weekly affected a person with heart disease?

Question by Anne L: How will binge drinking (excess of 5 drinks) two times weekly affected a person with heart disease?
I am wondering if there is a medical doc out there who could give me some insight into a situation with a loved one? He is diagnosed with heart disease and the related med. conditions that go with this dx. He has also had kidney stone problems, new issues, for the past two months. Seems after he binge drinks, only red wine, of course….Good for the heart. He has to miss work the next day and attributes it to upset stomack and kidney stone pain. He has been a long time heavy drinker for most of his life and he is 51. Tryglycerd. levels not in good zone and either is HDL, too low. Continues to drink and has become emotionally and physcially numb. Zero sex drive and desire for affection and wants to end our relationship because I need more. Many issues here. Is it the alcohol. I keep thinking he is going to die soon if he continues with his denial.

He is an alcoholic..he needs serious help, BUT he has to want the help. He is causing serious damage to his body and hurting everyone around him. You can go to a Alanon group (not sure if I spelled it right) for partners and/or family of alcoholics, they are free and all over the US

Is Drug Addiction A Choice Or A Disease?

Question by Daniel S: Is Drug Addiction A Choice Or A Disease?
I was just wondering your thoughts on Drug Addiction. I believe it is a choice, because we are the ones that decide to put stuff in our bodies.

I’d say it’s an addiction. It doesn’t start off as a choice. You don’t say, “I want to be addicted to heroin.” You start off by making one bad decision which leads to a bad habit and then you start making more bad choices and it snowballs.
It’s definately not a disease. I’ve been addicted to drugs and I’ve had diseases. No comparison.
I was offered my first cigarette when I was in kindergarten and I accepted. Did I choose at that point to be a drug addict? I didn’t know the long term affects and how it would lead me to smoking weed and so on.
I chose to quit all that. You can’t just choose to quit having a disease. If it really matters to you and it’s really what you want, you can choose to walk away. But it takes awhile to get to that point, and I had to choose it again and again.
And again.

Why is alcholism or drug addiction called a disease when in fact it’s a choice?
Feb 8th
Question by bobby_s_420: Why is alcholism or drug addiction called a disease when in fact it’s a choice?
I’m a recovering alchy & attend drug/alchol classes 4 nites a week, but I’m told as well as the meth heads attending we suffer from a disease of addiction. Why say it’s a disease? NOBODY forced the bottle down my throat nor the crack pipe in anyones face either.
See problem is I attend meetings & recovery groups 4 days a week, The facilitators & counselors all say addiction is a disease. I belive it’s a choice like I said nobody forced anybody to use. Is it just an excuse not too take responsibility for your actions? And by the wikipedia isn’t a reliable source.

How to Cure a New Generation Disease ‘Anorexia Nervosa’?
Jan 4th
Anorexia nervosa is an extreme condition of mind under which the concerning individuals are internally compelled to feel that they are getting overweight; consequently, they consume nominal food or at times skip meals. Initially, the individuals begin with normal dieting but with the passage of time as weight reduces, the desire to lose more pounds arises.
There are many factors that influence the human mind to switch from healthy dieting to full-fledge anorexia nervosa. For most of the individuals, self-starvation is the best way to control body weight. Hence, persons suffering from anorexia feel weak and are unable to control their abnormal dieting behaviors.
Unfortunately, anorexic people believe that their lives and health will be better, if they lose more weight. Hence, they feel good about themselves. But they are totally unaware of the fact that no dieting or weight loss can mend the negative self-image that has been created in their mind. Finally, anorexia leads to physical damage, emotional pain, and isolation.
But thanks to treatment centers that ensure successful treatment of anorexia nervosa. Primarily, the objective of anorexia treatment is to re-establish the individuals’ body weight by giving them medicines along with balanced and nutritious diet. Since, many people refuse to accept the problem, therefore, along with medical treatment, they also need psychiatric treatment.
For the better treatment, there are a few treatment centers that provide 24×7 patient care services such as:
- Individual therapy
- Group therapy
- Cognitive behavior therapy
- Nutritional counseling
- Meditation therapy
- Recreation therapy
- Relapse prevention
- Aftercare
Hence, people suffering from anorexia can directly contact anorexia treatment centers and get treated on time. The sooner you identify your problem, the easier it is for you to recover.
