Question by justlise: Where do you find help for alcoholism when you’ve tried everything?
Have given up on AA and have no money for yet another treatment center. I’m truly desperate.
No insurance. Unemployed. Have tried the one state-run program in my city and left after a rape-atttempt after being there for less than 24-hrs. I ran and they took no responsibility..said It’s something you have to deal with in treatment. Tell me I’m wrong…

Have you talked to your medical doctor??? There are mediation’s that can be given to help with the cravings like the ones you use for people who want to stop smoking. That and the combination of AA or a similar program might turn the tide for you. You should also try to find someone who specializes in addiction therapy a psychiatrist who can help you at the same time prescribe the medications that you might need.
If you’re unemployed than you should be eligible for Medicaid
and you should go to your nearest city hospital and apply for both Medicaid and to find a doctor to help you.

I’m doing a paper about the different roles family members assume when one of them has a problem with drugs, so any suggestions will come handy. Thanks!
It is not about the substances, it is about how the family gets involved in the addiction and the ways they have to cover up the problem, or how they manage the situation, thanks

Well, you’re doing a good thing by not being interested in Alcoholics Anonymous. 12 Step programs are no more beneficial than trying to quit on your own, but they’re also manipulative and damaging to self esteem. By forcing you to submit to a higher power, the 12 step program emphasizes human weakness to overcome a problem; not strength.

Please serious answers, this person was very successful, and now is not even able to communicate in a correct manner, due to excessive drinking, and this person is bipolar, was incarcerated and seen by doctors. Now has no work at all, and also lost most of their hearing. It is so sad,and a real mess, thank anyone in advance for some info.

maybe you can try the court system. try going to legal aid, explain the situation with them. there may be a legal loop-hole where this person can be taken to a state run facility for treatment for alcoholism and bi-polar disorder, since bi-polar is a form of depression, aggravated by the alcoholism. i’m not in the legal or mental health field, but i think it would be worth a try. ((hug))

Everyone has their own thing. I know its wrong and all but sometimes I find that look to be pretty haha. =/ I would never condone it or anything though, even though I kinda am by thinking it is pretty, only sometimes, when its not tooo bad.
