Long history of mental health affecting relationship with boyfriend. NEED ADVICE!?
Jan 25th
Question by : Long history of mental health affecting relationship with boyfriend. NEED ADVICE!?
I am debating on whether or not I should end things with my boyfriend. He and I have been dating for a year, and honestly, I really do love him. But from the very beginning, things have started off on the wrong foot for us and they have only gotten worse as time has gone on.
I suffer from Major Depression, Borderline Personality Disorder, and Bi-Polar Disorder. I am a “cutter” and I have had a few suicide attempts in the past. This is a day to day struggle of mine. I have had a very rough childhood, and now as a 22 year old adult, things seem to just be getting even harder.
From day one, my boyfriend knew about all of my “mental health” issues. He claimed that he could deal with them and that he wanted to “be there” for me and help me “get better.” But over the course of the past year, he has honestly only made things worse.
He is an alcoholic. He comes from a very different “family-type” then I do. His family grew up doing drugs and dropping out of high school. While, even though my mom died when I was 14….I still tried to progress positively and maintain the proper course that she would have wanted for my life.
But he flat out told me when I met him that he, along with all 6 of his brothers have never finished high school. And they all have done drugs at some point in their lives. And of course I thought to myself…Is this really the kind of person I want to be dating? But I tried not to judge him and accepted him past for what it was and hoped that he would be willing to make a new life with me.
Well, now…a year later. He and I really are in love. I swear it. But the problem is that I am still so depressed. And I’m sitting back thinking…ok…now what? Neither of us have jobs. (He worked at a fast food restaurant for 9 months…just recently quit) And I cannot find a job to save my life.
So our life together is very boring. And it takes a toll on me a lot quicker then it does him. My mind doesn’t work the same way his does…so when I have to sit at home and cry about the fact that I am a loser and I have a loser boyfriend and all we do is sit around and waste our lives…it doesn’t take me very long to come to the conclusion that I am a piece of sh!t and I should just kill myself.
But I never do it. I usually just force myself to go to sleep for a day or two. And then wake up and repeat the process all over again.
So I guess my question is…
What should I do?
I don’t want to get rid of the boyfriend…I really do love him.
But I feel like he’s taking me no where in life.
Then again…I’m taking myself no where.
HELP.

Question by sportsfreak540: What is worse for a person’s long term health, binge drinking, or smoking lots of weed?
Obviously there a lot of different ways this question could be answered but I was just hoping to get some thoughts on the topic, I don’t know if there is actually one specific correct answer or if its more of a grey area.

Its very hard to say because all of them cause horrible over time health. But I would say Weed to be in specific.
It also kinda sounds like your binge drinking and smoking weed if so I would recommend you lay off of one of them.

Nothing uneducated/immature: i.e. “Drinking is better because people who smoke weed are stoners; weed is dumb, etc. etc. etc.”

Sep 6th
Question by Humble.: Is it possible to restore my health from episodes of binge drinking at my age?
If I take control now at the age of 23 and stop drinking alchohol the way I do, do you think my body can restore itself? I do not drink everyday at all, but probably twice a week and if I drink beer I will have like 6 and if I drink wine I have alot, several tall glasses. I don’t know why I do this and I actually can’t stand it about myself, so I am really going to try and tackle this head on…..any suggestions and or ideas?

Q&A: Can going from binge drinking to drinking a few beers a day, if that, do severe damage to my health?

Question by Shannon G: Can going from binge drinking to drinking a few beers a day, if that, do severe damage to my health?
I’ve been a part of AA for 9 months but I’ve found that cutting back to a couple of light beers a day is working better than months of abstinence for now. It just seems like the stress of having to keep a certain sobriety date and constant reminders that I am an alcoholic causes me to relasp hard. Keep in mind that I am a 29 year old woman that has been drinking heavily for most of my twenties.

It can benefit way more than it can damage you. Your liver needs time to repair. I suppose that drinking a little beer a day wouldn’t hurt you very much, but it still needs to be in moderation.

Q&A: Alcoholism and Bulimia causing health problems?
May 7th
Question by Nikki: Alcoholism and Bulimia causing health problems?
I have been a bulimic for 4 years and an alcoholic for 7. For the last year whenever I do not drink for around 6 hours I begin to get feverish, become anxious, vomit and become faint. I realize that both these diseases cause serious health problems. I am wondering if these signs are signals of a SERIOUS and immediate problem that I should seek help for as soon as possible. Thank you for your responses.

You are right. Trust your instincts. You can actually die from alcohol withdrawal (seeing that you’ve been an alcoholic for so long) and will need to have supervised medical attention when you’re going through withdrawals. Your bulimia isn’t helping matters either. Organ failure is a possibility (including liver damage). Please seek help.

I myself am a recovering alcoholic and know what it’s like to be an addict, but I don’t really know ho to help a friend that has an addiction. I know that when people tried to help me with my problems I turned away at first and got angry. I think most people do that at first, but I know if my friend gets angry I will lose her, what should I do?

Q&A: Can anyone suggest help for alcoholism for someone with no income and hence no health insurance?

Question by justlise: Can anyone suggest help for alcoholism for someone with no income and hence no health insurance?
I will not consider a 12-step program.
No AA–have been to hundreds of meetings but have actually found it detrimental. Have gotten sponsors, done all the work, etc. Just find the meetings so depressing and I already suffer from depression and don’t have the money to get help for it.
