Long history of mental health affecting relationship with boyfriend. NEED ADVICE!?
Jan 25th
Question by : Long history of mental health affecting relationship with boyfriend. NEED ADVICE!?
I am debating on whether or not I should end things with my boyfriend. He and I have been dating for a year, and honestly, I really do love him. But from the very beginning, things have started off on the wrong foot for us and they have only gotten worse as time has gone on.
I suffer from Major Depression, Borderline Personality Disorder, and Bi-Polar Disorder. I am a “cutter” and I have had a few suicide attempts in the past. This is a day to day struggle of mine. I have had a very rough childhood, and now as a 22 year old adult, things seem to just be getting even harder.
From day one, my boyfriend knew about all of my “mental health” issues. He claimed that he could deal with them and that he wanted to “be there” for me and help me “get better.” But over the course of the past year, he has honestly only made things worse.
He is an alcoholic. He comes from a very different “family-type” then I do. His family grew up doing drugs and dropping out of high school. While, even though my mom died when I was 14….I still tried to progress positively and maintain the proper course that she would have wanted for my life.
But he flat out told me when I met him that he, along with all 6 of his brothers have never finished high school. And they all have done drugs at some point in their lives. And of course I thought to myself…Is this really the kind of person I want to be dating? But I tried not to judge him and accepted him past for what it was and hoped that he would be willing to make a new life with me.
Well, now…a year later. He and I really are in love. I swear it. But the problem is that I am still so depressed. And I’m sitting back thinking…ok…now what? Neither of us have jobs. (He worked at a fast food restaurant for 9 months…just recently quit) And I cannot find a job to save my life.
So our life together is very boring. And it takes a toll on me a lot quicker then it does him. My mind doesn’t work the same way his does…so when I have to sit at home and cry about the fact that I am a loser and I have a loser boyfriend and all we do is sit around and waste our lives…it doesn’t take me very long to come to the conclusion that I am a piece of sh!t and I should just kill myself.
But I never do it. I usually just force myself to go to sleep for a day or two. And then wake up and repeat the process all over again.
So I guess my question is…
What should I do?
I don’t want to get rid of the boyfriend…I really do love him.
But I feel like he’s taking me no where in life.
Then again…I’m taking myself no where.
HELP.

How long does it take to get over a miscarriage?
Jan 23rd
Question by : How long does it take to get over a miscarriage?
Ive been with my current girlfriend for 5 months. Her previous boyfriend of four years is a junkie and abusive and basically a POS. The miscarriage with him happened 13 months ago.She is severely depressed and is on medicine but it doesn’t seem to be helping. Her depression is really getting to me. It seems like all my time is spent on comforting her and assuring her that I love her and always walking on eggshells to prevent tears. She will randomly start crying and will flip out over little things. She gets depressed and has an attitude if I dont come over her condo every night. But now heres the main issue. I have a 6 year old daughter with a girl i was with for 12 years and I can sense a ton of jealousy and disdain for me (also her mother)when i have my daughter(i have 50/50 and shes at my house 3 or 4 nights a week). I can tell she is so jealous that I have a child and she doesn’t..Im 28 and shes 24. so long does it take for women to get over a miscarriage??the father is a huge pos and will probably be dead from heroin in a year or two. I just want to tell her to knock it off and move on already and quit crying. Im happy with my life(good job, good kid, good house) shes the only source of stress. her father, ex bf, and this has broken her and now im stuck with putting the pieces back together. ive had my share of tragedies and losing people i love in my life, so don’t assume that i don’t understand what its like to lose someone..what would you guys do???
thanks for all the answers..and im really not going to tell her to “knock it off and quit crying” im just saying that…i realize she is really torn up from it.im just wondering if its something that will be this intense forever..she does need more help than what she is getting. ive also heard horror stories about anti-depressants like the one answerer brought up. and her mother is also very wealthy and im just like “how can you be so sad when your mother pays for your 1600 a month condo and 2009 accord?!?!?!?!?!?”

Question by sportsfreak540: What is worse for a person’s long term health, binge drinking, or smoking lots of weed?
Obviously there a lot of different ways this question could be answered but I was just hoping to get some thoughts on the topic, I don’t know if there is actually one specific correct answer or if its more of a grey area.

Its very hard to say because all of them cause horrible over time health. But I would say Weed to be in specific.
It also kinda sounds like your binge drinking and smoking weed if so I would recommend you lay off of one of them.

Does anyone know of any support groups for long term pain management?
Oct 31st
Question by Christina L: Does anyone know of any support groups for long term pain management?
I have been diagnosed with a painful and so far untreatable medical condition that cause benign cysts and tumors to form throughout my body. I have several in my eyes and head that are very painful and for this reason have been on Methadone for pain management for several years. It is something that I will probably be taking for life as condition does not respond to treatment. I worry about the affect that this has on my children and become depressed thinking of being a slave to pain killers (not to mention the stigma that comes with it-most people assume that I am a junkie and taking it for heroin withdrawl) though the alternative is to be unable to function because of high levels of pain. Are there any support groups out there for people on long term pain management?

Question by HONEY: Do you think we can eventually work it out? Its not long. please need help!?
We just broke up after 2.5 yrs a month ago and im a mess.. the begining was very rough, he always thought i was up to something or cheating on him. It took a toll on me. Him being so insecure but i was determined to make it work. I had to get serious and break up with him bc i couldnt take it anymore, we got back together a week later and got thru it! Fast foward 2 years..
I just turned 25.. so ive been getting the itch to move foward, i pressured him and STESSEd him out and was MEAN, so mean to him bc he wasnt getting hhis stuff together quick enough for me. I wanted to move in and he wasnt ready and i pressured him sooo much, for a minute there i forgot about the love
and broke up with him. When i SHOULD of stood by him, and told him positive things instead of negative things. Hes been thru enough in his life and didnt need me, the one he loves so much, bringing him down.. Ive tried to get him back but he wont. He said he loves me so much but needs to work on himself and be by himself, and find himself and love himself bc for a really long time he hasnt done that. Just 3 months before he got together with me him and his Ex broke up, it was nasty, she cheated on him, and it was a bad break up.
Hes 22
He doesnt have much self worth.
Hes insecure
Not confident.
Grew up with both alcoholic parents
Hes very humble and a great guy.
I need to give him his space and time dont i? Ugh this sucks. Well i just want some advice, and things to do to help him so if we do get back together. I can be everything he needs me to be. I love him soo much
Someone mentioned going to do community service and help people so he can see others with tough lives also, and even tougher.
Also mentioned him playing on a sports team. He does that and absolutely LOVES it. It makes him sooo happy.
I love him to death. Please, need advice.

How long after drug addiction do you begin to feel normal again?
Sep 9th
Question by Juliiiie: How long after drug addiction do you begin to feel normal again?
Been sober since August 2008, two years later i still don’t feel like my old self. I still get that numb feeling, trigger points in some of the old places i revisit and the music i listen to, etc. I used a lot of opiates, daily for about three years. (17-20)
Will i ever feel like I did before? Could the drugs have permanently altered my body/mind?
Best answer:
Answer by Drake
If it even can recover depends on what drugs and how it effected the brain. Something that just tweeked with neurotransmitters and recepters could be recoverable. But that would be something that would mostly recover as you came down from the high of the drug….not long term effects unless it completely messed with the wiring. Anything that killed neurons would not recover. Neurons are cells that do not divide and create more cells. So dead cells are just completely lost and can not be replaced.

How long does feeling dizzy and lightheaded after binge drinking last?
Jun 18th
Question by Jake Damato: How long does feeling dizzy and lightheaded after binge drinking last?
I went on a cruise last week and did some heavy drinking and blacked out. I hadn’t drank for a while before this, nor do i normally drink a lot. The past 5 days or so I have been feeling really dizzy and having trouble sleeping. How long will this last?
Best answer:

you will feel sick until you replenish the fluids and electrolytes you lost from drinking so much! gatorade is your best friend at this point. drink lots of it. and take vitamins. avoid caffeine and alcohol until you feel better, and get plenty of sleep. you have a hangover in the extreme, and gatorade will fix you!
