Why do so many people hate Pete Doherty?
Nov 18th
Question by Craig: Why do so many people hate Pete Doherty?
He’s never actually harmed anyone (except a few papparazi), he never glorifies the use of drugs and he is constantly trying to give them up. It’s not like he’s the first ever rockstar with a drug problem. You could say he influences teenagers to take drugs, but any fan of his can see that both his music and personal life has suffered since his heroin problems worsened, so if anything Pete fans are more determined NOT to do drugs. You may not like his music and say he has no talent, but many people (including me) strongly disagree with this, and as music is all a matter of opinion, surely no one can claim that anyone within reason has no talent, he just might not suit your tastes. Try to give answers that aren’t just ‘He’s a junkie’ please.

Why are so many doctors and nurses so scared of Benzodiazepines like Xanax,Ativan and Klonopin?

Question by Freddie: Why are so many doctors and nurses so scared of Benzodiazepines like Xanax,Ativan and Klonopin?
Just to let everyone know, I do take a benzo for what it’s intended for and I have a presciption. I’m not a pill head or a pill popper. I have a really bad anxiety problem and I’ve been on 15 different medications like all the SSRIs, SNRIs ect … and the BZs are the only type of medication that helps me with my anxiety.
I think people really over react when it comes to BZs. Some peope act like you’re no different than a junkie or someone buying heroin off the street and I think that’s so stupid. I know they’re very addictive, but sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do.
I say “dependency” instead of “addiction” because I believe their is a very distinct difference. You are taking the medication for a legitimate purpose, and hopefully not escalating your dosage without prior consent from your doctor. I think being dependent on this medication is a fair trade-off for the relief it brings. 99% people only take a benzo for a short time or as a PRN but unfortunatly sometimes people like me with a severe anxiety disorder have to be on them long-term.

How many years of weekend binge drinking would normally cause cirrhosis?
Aug 6th
Question by Jon: How many years of weekend binge drinking would normally cause cirrhosis?
For about 4.5 years now, I have been a fairly heavy drinker, mostly weekend binge drinking/college fun. I totally understand the harms, but I also wanted to experience the fun. Anyway, now, down the road, I still drink pretty heavily, hoping to soon quit the habit. But, I was just wondering how long it would take for permanent bodily damage to be done. On a given weekend night i’ll drink between 10-12 cans of beer, and the occasional weekday about 6-7 cans of beer (maybe once-twice per week, tops).

Question by Mister Hat: How many beers do you have to drink for it to be binge drinking?
My girlfriend says when my friends come over that I binge drink with them. But we all have like 6 – 8 each beers in a 3 hour period. I’m pretty sure this is not binge drinking. Correct me if I’m wrong.

How many parents don’t let their kids have friends over?
Jan 10th
I am currently enrolled in a doctoral program at a major American university, and am seriously worried about one of my fellow students (call her Shelley). She is extremely caring and affectionate. Like, whenever she sees (in a casual, social setting) someone who has a sick relative or loved one, she is quick to ask how the latter is doing, openly showing support and concern for both parties. Or, when she sees drunken partygoers on her way home from campus, she often looks out for them (esp. when they appear distressed) and worries about them getting home safely. Being good-looking and very girlie, as well, Shelley seems like one who could have been the most popular girl in school, have an active social life, and be the type of friend everyone dreams of having. She could probably make a great girlfriend too, but that’s kind of beside the point, because she’s never dated before and isn’t very into that now. But, unfortunately, Shelley doesn’t have very much of that, because, as she confided to me last year, when me and her were both new, she has survived a horrible form of emotional abuse as a child, there mere thought of which makes her cry. It turns out that her parents (who are clean, well-educated [both have Ph D's], well-to-do – they live in a paid-off 4BR suburban home in an upscale area, free from drug and alcohol abuse, or any other unhealthy habits – much like their daughter) have virtually never let her invite friends over, go places with them, attend slumber parties, make phone calls in privacy (her mother used to eavesdrop and ask her prying questions), or engage in any other common social activities. When pushed, Shelley’s mother sometimes said that she did allow her daughter to have friends over, but the latter knew very well that if she proposed something like that, it would have to involveundue scrutiny (by her parents) and extensive preparations as though, as she likes to put it, it were “a dinner for two with the British Ambassador.” Much of the time her parents just made loads of senseless excuses aimed to rationalize (e.g. “Why do you need friends, when you have such a loving [read: well-to-do] family?”, “You’re too smart/old for that”), shame (“Be grateful for what you have and don’t envy your classmates!”), brainwash (“Some girls are just outgoing. Others like to keep to themselves and you’re just one of those. [Had they listened and paid attention to their daughter, they never would have thought this]“), excuse their laziness (“It’s hard enough for us to take care of you, and you’re asking us to let another girl ride our family car and sit with us in the movie theater?!”), assume the worst/most disturbing and disgusting (“What if they [the family of a slumber party hostess] are a bunch of drug addicts who will murder you in your sleep?” or [when Shelley wanted a roommate in college - she deeply regrets having chosen a school close to home, which resulted in loads of undue abuse] “Go with a single! We’re paying for your dorm so that you’d live close to your school and have an easier time studying; if you get a roommate, she might get drunk and vomit on your stuff or be ‘some sort of prostitute’ who’d bring in her pimps!!!”), put down (“Because you’re socially retarded/immature, that’s why [you can't have friends over]!!!”), or do any other combination of the above. The comment about being “socially retarded” has been particularly painful for Shelley, and I can really empathize with her because, as one can tell from the first few minutes of talking to her, she’s anything but. As I said before, she’s very sweet, caring, and friendly. Granted, she does have a few shortfalls in social skills (e.g. once, when she was at a sorority party and the girls were sharing embarrassing period stories and there was one that made everyone [incl. the subject] laugh, Shelley failed to catch on and offered that girl solace, as though she had just been victimized by this disaster and was feeling embarrassed at the moment), but those are just an unfortunate byproduct of her parents sheltering and should be easy to correct. As this story illustrates, Shelley seems to be hypersensitive to other people’s feelings, possibly trying to overcompensate for the abusive childhood she endured. And, if applied properly, this trait can be a great asset for her and help her find the peer group she’s always longed for. She often talks passionately about how much it would have meant for her to be able to go places with other girls, sometimes bursting into tears so bitter that it almost makes me want to cry with her. It particularly hurts Shelley to know that practically everyone else was allowed to see her peers after school and often asks me (as well as others who know of her tragedy) if I know anyone who has lived with similarly controlling parents. It would feel like she isn’t alone in this, and yet I don’t think I know of any other family that was similarly abusive. Do you know of anyone (esp. from a seemingly-decent fam
Why Are Commercial Dishwashers So Vital To Many Businesses?
Jan 5th
Do you own a business that requires the use of dishes? If you do, then you need to know why commercial dishwashers are so important to have. There are many different reasons why these are a must for any business that uses dishes. Knowing what these reasons are will help you see why you must get one for your business needs.
1. When you use dishes in your business, you have to make sure that they are cleaned after every use. By having a dishwasher clean them, you can be sure that they get clean. If you try serving food on plates that are dirty, then you will start losing business fast. Dishwashers are the best way to ensure you have clean dishes.
2. Did you know that there can be bacteria left on dishes if they are not cleaned in water that is hot enough? Many people don’t realize this, but it is true. By having a dishwasher clean your dishes for you, you can be sure that the bacteria are gone because these machines use water hot enough to kill any germs and bacteria.
3. Dishwashers will save you and your employee’s time. Time is a valuable thing when you are trying to serve customers food or beverages. You can’t waste time. By having a dishwasher washing your dishes for you, this frees you and your employees up to do other important things, but still let you have the clean dishes you always need when they are needed.
4. Did you know that there are commercial dishwashers that will also dry your dishes? It is true and this is important to know because your customers want dry dishes that don’t have spots. If you were to let your dishes air dry, there would likely be spots on them. This can be avoided by having your dishwashing machine dry them for you in just a few minutes time. Since presentation means a lot in business, clean dishes without spots are a must.
These are the most important reasons why it is vital for every business that uses dishes to have commercial dishwashers. Just remember that you need to take time to check out all of your options before deciding on the right one. That way you will be sure to get one that can handle all of your dishwashing needs. Also remember that a dishwasher will help your business in many different ways.

Home Businesses; Why Do So Many Fail?
Jan 5th
Why are businesses in which the owners work from home proliferating at the moment? The answer is simple: in this current economic climate, an increasing number of people are making the decision to start up their own business, or at least use the internet to try to make some extra cash. It is through economic necessity.
However, if you decide to start your own business from home, and want to be successful, there are many details you must consider. The first is that the vast majority fail. Why? Most do so for reasons that can be avoided easily by taking some professional advice. By taking that advice, you can beat the increasing competition and achieve the success that you desire so much.
Before discussing what should be done to ensure your success, here are the main reasons for failure. Can you identify with any of them?
1. A Failure to Plan
The old saying goes that ‘a failure to plan is a plan to fail’. That is definitely true. You must have a business plan, even if you just intend to sell advice on how to train cats.
Now, training cats is not easy, and if you have that knowledge, you could make a decent income. Imagine training a cat to bring the mail to you, do some weeding or even to take the dog for a walk! However, without a business plan you will undoubtedly fail.
Therefore, you have to write down what you want to be earning at the end of your first year, and what is needed to achieve that. What should your pricing be? How many sales do you need? How will you get these sales? What is your advertising budget? And so on . . .
If you start off blindly, hoping that everything will work out fine, it won’t and you will fail. Not having a plan is one of the main reasons for the failure of those that decide to start a home business.
2. Lack of Focus
The second reason for of many home businesses is a lack of focus. If you treat your business as a hobby, you will not succeed. If you think that because you have no boss, you can take time off whenever you feel like it, you will fail. Working from home involves a commitment greater than that.
OK, take the children to the surgery if they are ill, and yes, you can watch that great afternoon movie – but only if you make the time up in the evening. Your plan should have an associated strategy, with targets that you have to meet each month, each week and each day. The benefit of working from home is not taking time off, but being able to work your own hours to meet your targets.
3. Lack of Information and Knowledge
Working from home involves managing and running a business – you no longer have the accountant, the manager, the engineer or the secretaries that you had when working for a company. You are now all of these, and you have to get yourself trained in all of the skills needed to run your own home business. If you are doing well you can afford to employ some of these skills, but until you are in profit, you will have to do it all yourself.
These are three of the main reasons why people who have either lost their jobs due to the recession, or have been forcibly retired when they cannot afford to, fail in their home business.
What about the form your business will take? Can you train cats to take the dog for a walk? Unlikely! Perhaps you are a great cook and have some recipes you can sell, but have you seen the competition for that online? You would find it very difficult to compete against more established people, and the same is true for the vast majority of ideas.
Most people need help, both with their home business idea, and in how to work from home in a disciplined way so that they avoid the above problems. Unless you are lucky enough to be an expert cat trainer, and have a massive world-wide customer base willing to pay you a fortune to avoid taking their dog walkies themselves every evening, you need help and advice. This is available for you online if you can find the right websites.
Why do so Many Americans Prefer to Use an Online Pharmacy?
Jan 3rd
Traditionally, most Americans that required prescription drugs would get their prescription from their doctor and then go to their local pharmacy to fill the order. However, this has changed dramatically today, with many millions of Americans opting to buy their medications through an online pharmacy as opposed to a local one. Millions of Americans now routinely buy their drugs online and eighty percent of the public supports the idea. Why is this so?
For most Americans, it is a question of money. The simple fact of the matter is, drugs are exorbitantly expensive in the United States due to the way industry works. Generally, almost all drugs available within the United States cost fifty to eighty percent more than they do overseas, even from other countries with comparable prices and standards of living. The reasons for this relate directly to how the government caters to the pharmaceutical industry and tailors regulation to maximize their profits. This is done primarily through a near total lack of price regulation and by deliberately stifling competition.
Unlike almost every country on Earth, the United States does not regulate drug prices. In most of the world, and especially in other wealthy countries, having reasonably priced access to vital medications is either considered a basic right or a goal worthy of government support. This is not the case in the United States where drug prices are almost completely unregulated. This lack of regulation means the pharmaceutical companies set their own base prices and then the pharmacies add on their own retail price for each and every drug they sell. The result is that most American drugs are grossly overpriced, especially those that are necessary for life, since they have a captive market with no readily apparent alternative.
Further, since drugs – even ones vital for the life of the patient – fall under regular patent law, American companies are not allowed to create low cost generic versions until twenty years after the drug is invented. Since most drugs take a number of years to get approval for use in the United States, the amount of time between the drug’s public introduction to the market and the expiration of the patent differ. Nevertheless, almost all new drugs are given at least ten years in which the government actively prohibits the domestic production of lower priced generic alternatives. This law does not apply outside of the United States, which is precisely why countries like Canada, Israel, or the United Kingdom tend to introduce generic versions much sooner than American companies are allowed to do so.
The result of these policies is that there is no incentive whatsoever to make drug prices reasonable for everyone. Instead, the prices are set at the maximum that still allows for some customers, excluding everyone below this level. That is, usually once the wealthy and upper middle classes can afford the drug, the pharmaceutical companies are quite happy with the pricing, despite the fact that many millions of people find this much too expensive. Not surprisingly, many Americans that cannot afford these drugs have no alternative but to purchase their drugs online from foreign companies that sell the exact same products at a much more reasonable price.
