Question by Sdfsdq: I need a little insight on my binge drinking?
Basically I have insomnia and i used to binge drink till i would pass out just to get some sleep. I was able to stop doing that, but the other night i did it again. Im afraid that its going to happen again. Does anyone have any suggestions or any insight as to what i could do? stop drinking:(? moderation? idk

instead of drinking till you pass out, you could get someone to punch you in the face and knock you out. i guess it would be better on your liver…

Question by HONEY: Do you think we can eventually work it out? Its not long. please need help!?
We just broke up after 2.5 yrs a month ago and im a mess.. the begining was very rough, he always thought i was up to something or cheating on him. It took a toll on me. Him being so insecure but i was determined to make it work. I had to get serious and break up with him bc i couldnt take it anymore, we got back together a week later and got thru it! Fast foward 2 years..
I just turned 25.. so ive been getting the itch to move foward, i pressured him and STESSEd him out and was MEAN, so mean to him bc he wasnt getting hhis stuff together quick enough for me. I wanted to move in and he wasnt ready and i pressured him sooo much, for a minute there i forgot about the love :( and broke up with him. When i SHOULD of stood by him, and told him positive things instead of negative things. Hes been thru enough in his life and didnt need me, the one he loves so much, bringing him down.. Ive tried to get him back but he wont. He said he loves me so much but needs to work on himself and be by himself, and find himself and love himself bc for a really long time he hasnt done that. Just 3 months before he got together with me him and his Ex broke up, it was nasty, she cheated on him, and it was a bad break up.

Hes 22

He doesnt have much self worth.

Hes insecure

Not confident.

Grew up with both alcoholic parents

Hes very humble and a great guy.

I need to give him his space and time dont i? Ugh this sucks. Well i just want some advice, and things to do to help him so if we do get back together. I can be everything he needs me to be. I love him soo much

Someone mentioned going to do community service and help people so he can see others with tough lives also, and even tougher.
Also mentioned him playing on a sports team. He does that and absolutely LOVES it. It makes him sooo happy.
I love him to death. Please, need advice.

My dad is dying of alcoholism and I need to help him, how?

Question by sarahsariesarah: My dad is dying of alcoholism and I need to help him, how?
He has drank all my life. my mom never knew him not drinking. It’s a case a day now for the past 5 years or so. He had a routine physical bout 3 years ago and they said he had the beginning signs of pancreatitis and should quit drinking immediately and come back in 6 months to check if the symptoms and signs improved at all. Since then, his drinking has consistently increased and he has avoided the dr at all costs. He is not the same person at all. He doesn’t remember long enough to have a conversation. He is getting senile almost at age of 45. He keeps a steady job and makes good money, he misses days and mornings here and there but makes it enough to stay employed with a state job. the second he gets home though he sucks two down like he’s waited all day for that. He won’t talk about it with anyone, is in denial and drinks and stays by himself in our family’s garage all night long and weekends. I want to commit him through the county to an impatient RX program. Is this possible?

Best answer:

Answer by MOM KNOWS EVERYTHING
It may be possible to have him temporarily committed to “dry out”, but it is unlikely to cure him. It sounds like he has no desire to change for himself, and if that is true, nothing anyone else can do will change him either.

What kind of psychology do I need to study if I want to specialize in drug addiction?

Question by malagie: What kind of psychology do I need to study if I want to specialize in drug addiction?
If I am to work with drug addicts or something connected (preventing from drug abuse etc.) do I really need to study psychology? any way avoid it? if not what kind of psychology do I need to study???

Answer by Debbie V
You could study sociology or social work…Really, with this job, you need a master’s degree, so I can’t see that the bachelor’s really matters too much, so long as you take all the basics required to earn your master’s.

I know you’ve probably got personal reasons for working in this area, but it’s a really tough job. Addictions go back to drugs over and over, and it’s really frustrating to the therapists involved. Burn out is not uncommon.

I shouldnt call him right? I should wait till he calls me? Bc ive been the one calling him trying to work it out but he jus seems like he needs space and time. This sucks!!

Best answer:

Answer by Nikoli Hates You
Give him space. Let him work on himself.

You can’t keep pushing and pulling.
I understand what he’s going through. It’s hard.
I can sympathize with you too.

Just give him space, let him build himself back up.
If you get back together with him try to be more understanding.

Q&A: How do I convince my husband that I need inpatient rehab for alcoholism? He insists that it won’t help me.?

Question by Cindy: How do I convince my husband that I need inpatient rehab for alcoholism? He insists that it won’t help me.?
Because I tried outpatient rehab once and didn’t stick with it, he is positive that “rehab” of any sort would be a useless waste of money. I keep thinking of all the money I currently spend on wine…. This has been going on for three years, ever since I had gastric bypass and could no longer fulfill my food addiction. I apparently just replaced that addiction with the addiction to alcohol. ANY help would be appreciated!

Best answer:

Answer by Nick
I’m not really sure about the difference between the two, but my dad used to be an alcoholic before he was told he wouldn’t make it past 39 if he kept drinking. He has to take liver pills now.
