Is it normal to bleed after binge drinking?

Question by El Mero Chilango: Is it normal to bleed after binge drinking?
So, I was out with my pals the other night: Flavio, Estefan, and Ricky and we got totally wasted in the club. I don’t remember much about that night (except that I had a ball!) and woke up ín the apartment of this guy named Leslie (didn’t even know him).

What was really strange was I was bleeding from my bottom and my underroos were a mess.

Should I talk to a doctor? Do you think the massive quantity of alcohol damaged my stomach and caused it to bleed?

Thanks guys!

How long after drug addiction do you begin to feel normal again?

Question by Juliiiie: How long after drug addiction do you begin to feel normal again?
Been sober since August 2008, two years later i still don’t feel like my old self. I still get that numb feeling, trigger points in some of the old places i revisit and the music i listen to, etc. I used a lot of opiates, daily for about three years. (17-20)

Will i ever feel like I did before? Could the drugs have permanently altered my body/mind?

Best answer:

Answer by Drake
If it even can recover depends on what drugs and how it effected the brain. Something that just tweeked with neurotransmitters and recepters could be recoverable. But that would be something that would mostly recover as you came down from the high of the drug….not long term effects unless it completely messed with the wiring. Anything that killed neurons would not recover. Neurons are cells that do not divide and create more cells. So dead cells are just completely lost and can not be replaced.

What do you think? Answer below!

My boyfriend goes from being a totally normal, caring person, to a really mean defensive jerk when he drinks?

Question by Lost Girl: My boyfriend goes from being a totally normal, caring person, to a really mean defensive jerk when he drinks?
Ok, so my boyfriend of 4 years (he’s 32) is one of those super nice guys by day, but (sometimes) when he’s had a few drinks…he really gets defensive and mean. It’s gotten worse over the past 1 year or so, or maybe my level of patience has diminished.

For example, we will meet for a dinner somewhere between our houses, and I’m guessing he makes a drink “for the road” before he meets me. This “roadie” will probably consist of 2-3 shots of vodka with some mixer. We’ll have 1 or 2 (usually if I have 1 or 2, he has 3 or 4) drinks at dinner, etc. Then, we’ll talk later in the evening (after we’ve both gone to our homes) and he’s slurring. I’ll ask, “hey, are you ok? How are you slurring? Are you drunk?” Come to find out he’s stopped for a “roadie” beer or 2 on the way home. Mind you, he’s made a whopping 4-5 mile drive home. He gets WAY upset/defensive with me and we usually end up in some sort of arguement over the phone.

This is just one example of the “during the week” issues. The weekends are an entire different story.

My question is…at what point does a person become an “alcoholic?” I know that’s an odd question, but I guess my fear is when do I pull the trigger on this relationship. I don’t do well with quick mood changes, that’s my job (kidding…), and when he drinks super quick like this, he’s really a different person. However, it’s not like he wakes up and drinks, and he doesn’t drink everyday (at least not to my knowledge). So…is he, in fact, an “alcoholic?”

Also, why is the anger honed at me? I’m sure he doesn’t like me nagging him about the drinking, but the guy already has one DWI, and he needs to watch driving around with open containers in the car.

I hate being “mom,” but I also care about what happens to the guy. I knew going in that he had a drinking issue in college and shortly after, but I figured he would outgrow it because most people do when they, I don’t know…have to work and GROW UP???? HELP!

Is having parents like this normal?

Question by Ramon: Is having parents like this normal?
who are always angry, all the time and quick to judge. Everyone else is always wrong.

a) like I said, dad is a borderline alcoholic with MS.

b) mom is too busy all the time, between arguing with him, taking care of our grandma with
alzheimer’s, and managing her apart-ment complex, and her career.

c) dad will storm in and demand that we not “make her jump” when we ask for help.
All he does is sit at the computer all day, and gives us a ride to school and that is it.

He has the nerve to tell us, he actually supports our education.

d) because both are too busy, they ship me off to therapy so they don’t have to bother with me.

Why do you think most college students regard binge drinking as a normal rather than deviant behavior?

Question by KCMO girl: Why do you think most college students regard binge drinking as a normal rather than deviant behavior?
Which do you think would be more effective in stopping binge drinking on a campus, informal or formal social control and why?

This is strictly speaking from a sociological perspective

Best answer:

Answer by Nile Dave
It is to do with their social surrounding and the sub-culture they are in. A sub-culture is a group within a culture that shares some of the values with the wider culture but with distinct differences. The fact that most citizens find binge drinking to be deviant means that it goes against their social norm, it is considered to be an odd behaviour. The fact that most college students (generalising) binge drink means that it is within their norm (normal behaviour) due to their sub-culture and find it normal and not deviant. This also works in the converse, if you went to a party and didn’t drink, it would go against the social norm and you would look odd. People who are deviant are labelled (Becker 1976).

Informal social control – if you stuck posters on a wall and made new legislation’s for the campus then would everyone follow? The fact that everyone is binge drinking in the first place and being deviant indicates that a different informal approach is needed to influence their behaviour and change their perception. Whilst one-to-one shock sessions may work, it is too expensive and time consuming to do so a informal means needed. Maybe getting some of the leaders of a social group to not drink or to start a charity campaign — like give money to charity instead to alcohol would help as it affects people on a deeper level, but definitely informal social control as this is the most persuasive technique to affect social norms. As more people not drink, it adds pressure to those that do and leads to anxiety and pressure (Holmes and Rahe 1976) and they will be considered deviant.

Drug Rehabilitation Centers Get Your Life Back to Normal

Drug Rehabilitation centers play a significant role in helping people recover from drug addiction and bring their lives back to normal again. Doctors play an important part in drug rehabilitation centers by helping even those patients to recover from alcohol and drug addiction who otherwise thought they were incurable. It is extremely difficult for an individual to recover from addiction without medicines or treatment. At the same time, just the thought of going to a rehabilitation center may seem very threatening to the drug addict. This situation may be avoided to some extent if they have a better idea of what to expect when they enter a drug rehabilitation center.

Every Rehabilitation Center is Unique …

There are several types of rehabilitation centers and most of them might be unique in one way or the other. Drug rehabilitation centers address both physical as well as psychological aspects of alcohol or drug dependence. Doctors prescribe some medicines to help the patient tackle withdrawal symptoms better. This step is important in addressing physical dependence on drugs. Doctors consider it as a vital and challenging task since this is the first step in breaking patients’ alcohol or drug addiction. It is believed addicted people develop chemical dependence on alcohol or drugs due to which they suffer from withdrawal symptoms.

… So are the Drug Addicts

Every drug addict is different and so are the situations around them. There are no fixed treatment methods for all of them. Group therapy and individual counseling are another important part of treatment. In group therapy patients participate in group sessions in which other addicts are also present. Since many of them have under gone various recovery stages, they can help those patients who have just started the process.

There are No Guarantees

Drug rehabilitation centers cannot, however, guarantee that the individual will completely recover after completion of his or her treatment. The time taken by patients to recover may vary with each case as well as on how long the patient has suffered from addiction. Though alcohol and drug rehabilitation programmes are similar, there are several differences as well. While withdrawal methods vary for different type of drug addiction, they are the same for alcohol irrespective of what type of alcohol the patient was addicted with.

Some drug rehabilitation programs do not even use medications to cure the patient. Rather, they use nutritional supplements to enhance the recovery process of their patients. Most drug rehabilitation programs, however, use drugs and at times anesthesia to treat the patient from serious drug addiction condition. Those who use anesthesia hire the services of specialist anesthesiologist who help the addicted person sleep during painful withdrawal symptoms.

You Need Help? That’s a huge Step Forward

If you have come to a decision that you need help with your drug addiction problem, there are several drug rehabilitation centers which provide both outpatient and inpatient services. If you are still feeling confused where to go for treatment, start by talking to your family doctor, they might be able to suggest comfortable drug rehabilitation center for you.
