How Does Addiction Begin? (Part Two -of The Cycle of Addiction)
Jan 7th
Is a person genetically or bio-chemically predisposed to addiction or alcoholism?
Various postulates along such lines have been put forward over the years and debated within the scientific and chemical dependency communities. That this has produced no truly effective solution to drug addiction, VERY poor recovery rates and a WORSENING drugs epidemic tells us the aforementioned communities may have been barking up a very wrong tree.
Another school of thought and another wrong tree, advocates the “disease concept” of drug addiction, which postulates that addiction is an inherited disease and the individual is permanently ill at a genetic level.
In other words, “nothing can be done about it” because the problem is imprinted in the DNA – the classic psychiatric method of explaining away tax payers’ billions wasted on abject failure to effectively resolve…well, anything!
No conclusive proof for the “gene” theory of addiction has been produced incidentally, although the false datum has crept into the society. One will often hear addicts describing themselves as having an “addictive personality” – usually because that is what they have been told by a therapist who had no real answers. Think about the message hidden in that false datum: “there’s nothing you – or WE - can do about it because you are inherently flawed. You’re stuck with it pal!” This theory, while it “scientifically” explains away failures has yet produced no successul strategy or workable methodology for actually helping human beings beat drug addiction. If our goal is to do something effective to actually help people, then it has been useless.
Another philosophy argues that addiction is a double-stranded problem consisting of a physical and mental dependency on chemicals, compounded by a pre-existing mental illness that needs to be treated first as the primary cause of the addiction. Such a mental illness would be so-called clinical depression, bipolar disorder, or some other piece of elastically defined psychobabble.
As for psychiatry’s lack of diagnostic criteria or actual evidence for any of the “illnesses” listed its Diagnostic Manual and the quackery that accompanies its diagnosis and “treatment,” please don’t get me started…..I’ll cover psychiatry’s Great Diagnosis Con in a later article.
Suffice to say here, the “mental illnesses” purported without evidence to underlie drug addiction usually require drugs to treat them. The stupidity of using drug to cure an addiction to drugs should be obvious and needless to say that approach has produced – surprise, surprise – not just failure but a deepening drugs crisis!
Yet another philosophy subscribes to the idea that drug dependency leads to permanent “chemical imbalances” in the neurological system that must be treated with psychotropic medications after the person has withdrawn from their drug of choice. Again, a lovely way of milking the addict’s misery of every last drop of profit but only a partial truth.
Yes, extensive abuse of some drugs can cause permanent damage, but PSYCHOTROPIC MEDICATIONS ARE THE WORST OFFENDERS.
The degree of damage that would necessitate, say, tranquillisers to enable the person to function is rare and almost never resuts from abuse of street drugs. In my experience most addicts, although they have harmed themselves through the long-term imbibing of chemical poisons and asssociated malnutrition and so forth, can and do make a very good recovery with the right treatment, such as that provided on the Narconon program. And harmful psychiatric poisons are the very last thing they need.
None of the above, at best partial, truths have paved the way for an effective solution to the drugs problem.
There is another way of looking at the problem that DOES open the door to a much more effective handling of the problem.
The addict is NOT mentally ill, does not have a brain disease and is not genetically defective:
Addiction begins with pain.
I will cover this more fully in part three of this essay; “Addiction Begins With Pain”

Gorilla Marketing Tactics Part Four – Writing
Jan 5th
Gorilla Marketing Tactics Part Four – Writing
There are tons of ways for you to generate free traffic for yourself through various forms of writing. If you absolutely hate writing, then video marketing would probably be a better idea for you, or you can pay people to write for you.
Whether you hate writing or not, you should at a minimum have a blog. Your blog will serve to establish you as an actual living person, as well as link all your other marketing efforts together. You should be posting your articles and press releases on your blog (more about writing articles and press releases in a future edition of Gorilla Marketing Tactics), as well as posting links to your Facebook, Myspace, Twitter and Youtube pages (see my other Gorilla Marketing Tactics articles for more info on these). Again if you really hate this sort of thing, you can pay someone to do it for you (Platinum 7 with CarbonCopyPRO offers tons of great services), but some short blog posts shouldn’t be too much effort. You should have a page on your blog stating who you are and why you’re blogging (generally in an About Me section). If you’re trying to promote your business, you do not want to blatantly try to sell or push your business to people. Try to put personal information about yourself in your About Me section. Ad pictures and/or video and let people see that you’re a real person.
Most of my articles are geared towards people in the internet marketing, or work-at-home business. If that’s the case with you, a great way to gain followers and get people interested in what you do is to post unbiased marketing advice on your blog. You don’t want to blog about “I’m with so and so… they’re the greatest company out there because…”. This will just turn people off. Blog about the lessons you learned in setting up your own at-home business, blog about marketing methods that have worked for you, etc. If you’re just getting started, you may think you don’t have anything to write about, but the company you’re with (if they’re a good company) should provide you with lots of information on how to market. You can simply write an article about one of these methods, how it has or hasn’t worked for you, and how to do it properly. If you give solid unbiased advice, people will trust you and may wonder what it is exactly that you do that you give such great advice. Clicks to your landing page will come (provide a link at the end of each blog post, or simply on the side of your blog), and with enough clicks you’ll get people who will sign up with you. See an example of my blog
Also always remember to do good keyword research, because otherwise it will be tough to get hits on your blog (more on keyword research in a later article).
Retirement – a New Start? Part 3
Jan 4th
Preparation for retirement cannot be done soon enough from every point of view. A new change in lifestyle with more time to fill requires careful planning, but how many of us actually do it? By not giving it some thought we can easily ruin the first part, if not all, of the last 25 years or so of our lives. As previously stated in the first two parts of this series, we are living longer, staying healthier and keeping fitter than ever before and by the year 2020 life expectancies will have increased by another 3 years. The average retirement age today is 57.5, so 30+ years is easily possible for this new life stage and it is worth the effort to find a satisfying, rewarding or even challenging way of life in our retirement. My thoughts on the approach and preparation aspect of this subject can be categorised as follows:
1. Consider part time employment or continuing working with reduced hours. Full time working is rewarded with status, income, role and purpose, as well as having a group of colleagues and clients to share it with. Sudden loss of this would be very stressful to cope with at a time when there could be other problem situations, such as being at home all day with your partner. It is worthwhile discussing this with your partner and there are plenty of agencies that can offer advice or counselling on this subject.
2. Make sure that you are as financially secure as is possible. There is more advice on this subject that the rest of these topics put together. The results of a computer search on retirement planning will produce more that 90% of its advice on the financial aspect. All I would add is that the regulations, certainly here in the UK, have changed quite a lot recently and more may follow in the current 2009 credit crisis, so it will pay to check the date of the advice, or consult an expert.
3. Don’t forget to take advantage of the free or reduced packages available for the over 60′s. Transport on buses and trains, cinema, gardens, sport (e.g. golf), and museum and gallery admission charges often offer concessions.
4. There will be an increase in leisure time. As well as taking advantage of the above, it is a good time to develop hobbies or take up new ones. As pointed out in Part 2 of this series, people tend to cope better with this aspect when they have existing interests, so it pays to be prepared and think about this well in advance.
5. Doing voluntary work can be as good for the retiree as the community it benefits. It can be a satisfying way of using skills and expertise to help others, and has the added advantage of a working environment and interaction with others.
6. Be careful about the possibility of moving home. Whilst relocating to be nearer relatives or downsizing to ease the finances may seem attractive options, the loss of your present community, friends, and organisations may not be advisable at a time when you need them the most. To summarise, getting older is, in most cases, a very gradual process. Retirement, on the other hand, is immediate and can happen overnight so a little thought and preparation on these lines will not come amiss. We began this series by stating that the overriding factor is always going to be mental and physical health, and of course this remains true. For most of us however, it is well worth the effort of time spent in reconnaissance.
Money Saving Auto Insurance Tips – Part Two
Jan 4th
There are many ways to save money with your auto insurance and it is worth exploring every option out there. Auto insurance is a good place to look for savings because almost every state requires car owners to carry at least a minimum level of auto insurance for each vehicle they own. Auto insurance is required by law so you should take the time to compare auto insurance rates and find the best possible policy for your car insurance needs.
The single best way to save money with auto insurance is to shop around. Compare auto insurance quotes – this advice might sound simple, but it is the simplest way to find the best possible auto insurance rate. Get at least three auto insurance quotes to compare and make certain you are comparing similar policies.
Here are five additional tips for saving money with your auto insurance.
1. Having a good driving record can save you considerable amounts of money with your auto insurance. Almost all auto insurance providers offer safe driver discounts, and often the longer your driving record remains clean the higher discount offered on your car insurance. In addition you can take defensive driving – as long as it’s not because of a ticket – and receive additional safe driving auto insurance discounts.
2. Did you know your credit rating can affect your auto insurance rate? It can be depending on the rules in your state, so work toward maintaining a clean credit rating. Also check with your auto insurance provider to find out just how much your credit score factors into your car insurance rate.
3. Bundling your auto insurance with your home insurance or other types of insurance will almost always provide a discount on your entire insurance package. Even if you find auto insurance from a different provider than your home insurance that is less expensive than a bundled package, make sure you look into the extra benefits you may be offered when buying auto insurance and home insurance from the same insurance provider. Very often you will be offered more than a simple discount when buying all your insurance from one provider.
4. What is your occupation? Did you know if you are employed in certain occupations, such as engineers, educators or scientists, you may be eligible for an auto insurance discount. Check with your car insurance provider to find out if you quality for an occupational discount.
5. If you don’t drive very much, shop around for an insurance provider that offers low-mileage discount programs.
Millionaire Mindset Success Secrets – Part 1
Jan 4th
Ever wondered what wealthy people do that’s so different? How is it that some people are so successful and others aren’t? Well, what separates truly successful people from the remainder of the population is their way of thinking and acting. No one is really unsuccessful; they just haven’t learnt how to become successful yet.
So, how do you go about cultivating that millionaire mindset? Here are a few simple ideas for you to consider and put into practice straight away
1. Unless your Parents are Rich…Don’t Do What They Did.
Seriously, why would you take advice from someone on a subject they have no knowledge of? Only take advice from 1. Someone you admire and; 2. Someone who is an expert in the area they are advising you on. You’re parents, friends etc, probably mean well in the advice they give you but they can’t advise you on how to become rich if they are not. As you begin to adopt the beliefs and habits of successful people you will realize that a lot of what you learned growing up unfortunately wasn’t very useful in helping you create wealth.
2. Get Rich Slowly…Faster
You need to master the art of managing money in the same way you would approach the mastering a musical instrument, a sport etc. Start early on the road to money mastery and become an apprentice, learning only from the best. By learning the tools, strategies and skills needed for managing money you will become richer, faster. Mastery requires discipline and patience, essential skills in true wealth creation. Leave your emotions on the sideline and practice discipline. The more disciplined you are the faster you will become wealthy and the wealthier you will become.
3. Fake it Until You Make It
If you’re not already a millionaire, start behaving like you’re already one! Why is this important? It stands to reason that if you act and think like a millionaire you will become one. I’m not advocating spending money you don’t have or lying to yourself but I am suggesting you adopt the behaviours and mindset of the wealthy in order to become wealthy yourself.
4. Get in Line, Stay in Line
Getting rich is a bit like this. You toil away for years and suddenly you are wealthy. Don’t flit back and forth from one thing to another. Find you’re niche and get to the back of the line and stay there until you get to the top of the line. Most people don,t do this but skip out of line and then have to go to the back of the line again. Most people aren’t rich.
5. Ain’t No Business Like Showbusiness
When you walk into a room full of people do you crawl along the wall or do you make for the centre of the room and grab attention. Attention always turns into money. Isn’t that what celebrities do? Add a bit of showbusiness to everything you do and the money will follow.
