Question by DSTV: What would you think of a person who couldnt hold a stable job because of their drug addiction?
And who asks people for money to help with food etc but spends it on drugs. Would you think poorly of this person? How would your perception of the person change?

I would think that this person needs to be committed into a drug rehabilitation program.
No, I would not “think poorly” of this person. Drug addiction is not a moral litmus test.
But if the person were involved in my life in any way, I would move heaven and earth to place them into a rehabilitation program. They are never going to have any life, any life at all, unless they kick the addiction. And it’s almost impossible to do on your own.

That is pretty typical. Because drug dependency is such a risk, life insurance companies usually like to wait about 7-10 years before offering coverage.

How will binge drinking (excess of 5 drinks) two times weekly affected a person with heart disease?
Jun 15th
Question by Anne L: How will binge drinking (excess of 5 drinks) two times weekly affected a person with heart disease?
I am wondering if there is a medical doc out there who could give me some insight into a situation with a loved one? He is diagnosed with heart disease and the related med. conditions that go with this dx. He has also had kidney stone problems, new issues, for the past two months. Seems after he binge drinks, only red wine, of course….Good for the heart. He has to miss work the next day and attributes it to upset stomack and kidney stone pain. He has been a long time heavy drinker for most of his life and he is 51. Tryglycerd. levels not in good zone and either is HDL, too low. Continues to drink and has become emotionally and physcially numb. Zero sex drive and desire for affection and wants to end our relationship because I need more. Many issues here. Is it the alcohol. I keep thinking he is going to die soon if he continues with his denial.

He is an alcoholic..he needs serious help, BUT he has to want the help. He is causing serious damage to his body and hurting everyone around him. You can go to a Alanon group (not sure if I spelled it right) for partners and/or family of alcoholics, they are free and all over the US

maybe you can try the court system. try going to legal aid, explain the situation with them. there may be a legal loop-hole where this person can be taken to a state run facility for treatment for alcoholism and bi-polar disorder, since bi-polar is a form of depression, aggravated by the alcoholism. i’m not in the legal or mental health field, but i think it would be worth a try. ((hug))

My boyfriend goes from being a totally normal, caring person, to a really mean defensive jerk when he drinks?
Mar 22nd
Question by Lost Girl: My boyfriend goes from being a totally normal, caring person, to a really mean defensive jerk when he drinks?
Ok, so my boyfriend of 4 years (he’s 32) is one of those super nice guys by day, but (sometimes) when he’s had a few drinks…he really gets defensive and mean. It’s gotten worse over the past 1 year or so, or maybe my level of patience has diminished.
For example, we will meet for a dinner somewhere between our houses, and I’m guessing he makes a drink “for the road” before he meets me. This “roadie” will probably consist of 2-3 shots of vodka with some mixer. We’ll have 1 or 2 (usually if I have 1 or 2, he has 3 or 4) drinks at dinner, etc. Then, we’ll talk later in the evening (after we’ve both gone to our homes) and he’s slurring. I’ll ask, “hey, are you ok? How are you slurring? Are you drunk?” Come to find out he’s stopped for a “roadie” beer or 2 on the way home. Mind you, he’s made a whopping 4-5 mile drive home. He gets WAY upset/defensive with me and we usually end up in some sort of arguement over the phone.
This is just one example of the “during the week” issues. The weekends are an entire different story.
My question is…at what point does a person become an “alcoholic?” I know that’s an odd question, but I guess my fear is when do I pull the trigger on this relationship. I don’t do well with quick mood changes, that’s my job (kidding…), and when he drinks super quick like this, he’s really a different person. However, it’s not like he wakes up and drinks, and he doesn’t drink everyday (at least not to my knowledge). So…is he, in fact, an “alcoholic?”
Also, why is the anger honed at me? I’m sure he doesn’t like me nagging him about the drinking, but the guy already has one DWI, and he needs to watch driving around with open containers in the car.
I hate being “mom,” but I also care about what happens to the guy. I knew going in that he had a drinking issue in college and shortly after, but I figured he would outgrow it because most people do when they, I don’t know…have to work and GROW UP???? HELP!

Literally, hours ago, i was the happiest person in the world?
Mar 10th
Question by
!: Literally, hours ago, i was the happiest person in the world?
Now im sat here with puffy eyes and face from crying my eyes out.
After a few beers and thinking about the past.
Ill make it quick.
From the age of 12 i found out my mum was a suicidal alcoholic.
I skipped school most days to help her cover her dirty secret from the world.
I found her trying to hang herself, managed to save her.
Then was i was 15, my uncle, who was more of an uncle than my dad was then died of cancer. I had to watch him dying in front of my eyes. It made me feel sick.
My mam left 3months after, not seen her in 2years.
I tried to commit suicide when i was 15. I didnt know what i was doing though so only ended up having to drink some dry charcoal drink.
More crap happened.
Then i when i was 16 i tried to commit suicide again. I chickened out and rang an ambulance. This time it was more serious. Apprently im lucky to be here says the hospital.
Can admit that was the most painful 2weeks alone of my life :S
I get out of hospital thinking ive learnt my lesson and nothings worth dying for, then 3days later, my auntie dies.
Noone knows about that attempt.
My family dont really give a crap, and didnt even ask where id been for the last 2weeks of my life.
Ive now moved miles from my hometown, living out on my own fending for myself
I was amazingly happy a few hours ago, like, on top of the world!
Now im sat here thinking about suicide, then same way i was 2-3weeks ago :/
I dont have a doctor.
And no idea what to do?
Any advice?
I do have a job, as a waitress, and i love it!
Im usually a happy person ![]()
Cept if i have a drink on my own like now, it makes me think about c.rap and how i coulld have changed things.
I cant understand how i was feeling amazing a few hours ago. And now feel like s.hit :/
Erghh.
