Come on; let’s face it, what could be more fun than dressing up on Halloween? Not only does this require a great costume, you need some Halloween spirit and some safe face paint to create looks that really command attention.

You can always buy some face paint and commercially prepared makeup to use, but it is much cheaper to create them yourself. Let the kids help and make it a family project. Just think about how excited your children will be when you let them know what “new recipe” you need their help with.

Here is a simple recipe for a basic homemade face paint that can be created in just a few moments.

Ingredients

-2 teaspoons of cornstarch

-1 teaspoon of water

-1 teaspoon of any cheap cold cream

-A few drops of food color

Directions

-Mix the cold cream in a bowl along with the cornstarch.

-Add the water to your bowl and stir until it is blended very well.

-You can then add a few drops of food colouring to create the shades of colour that you want.

• You can apply this facial paint with your fingers, makeup brushes or tiny paint brushes. When you are ready to remove it just use some plain soap and warm water, now how easy is that?

Another recipe for homemade face paint produces some fairly realistic “blood”.

Recipe For Fake Blood

Ingredients

-¼ bottle of corn syrup

-Small amount of hot water

-½ teaspoon of dish detergent or liquid hand soap

-A few drops of red food color

Directions

Add the corn syrup to a bowl and mix it with a little hot water. You will need just enough hot water to give you the right type of texture for the face paint you are looking for. Now add the soap or dish detergent. This ingredient makes this facial makeup much easier to remove later on. Use the food colouring to make the “blood” the shade that you prefer.

This is another basic recipe that you can use to create some safe and cheap homemade face paint.

• Blend 4 tablespoons of cornstarch with 2 tablespoons of solid cooking shortening. Crisco is one of the most common shortenings available. You can even purchase this in convenient blocks that make measuring the amount easy to do.

• When these 2 ingredients are well mixed add some drops of food colour to create an array of shades.

• If you leave the homemade makeup white without using any additional colour it makes a great facial foundation for a vampire, clown or ghost.

• Tinting the mixture green will produce the ideal makeup for a witch.

• You can also blend several food colours together to create unusual shades that may be more suited for your unique Halloween character.
