Q&A: Is smoking pot better for your body than drinking alcohol?
Feb 7th
Question by Vic Romano: Is smoking pot better for your body than drinking alcohol?
It seems like getting wasted with pot would be healthier than getting wasted with alcohol, because it doesn’t harm your liver like excessive drinking does. I understand coke, heroin, etc. being illegal but pot doesn’t seem very harmful; just a different way to get stoned if you ask me. I don’t drink alcohol or smoke pot, but I think alcohol would be more harmful to your body. Is it? And if it is worse, then why is marijuana illegal and not alcohol as well? I’m not a junkie that sits around and whines about this kind of thing all day, I’m just curious.

Answer by No!
Drinking alcohol to a certain extent is legal. Driving while drinking is most dangerous and is therefore illegal.
Neither is a good life style though…

Its very hard to say because all of them cause horrible over time health. But I would say Weed to be in specific.
It also kinda sounds like your binge drinking and smoking weed if so I would recommend you lay off of one of them.

My mom has a HUGE problem with smoking cigarettes?
Oct 8th
Question by Lysergic Acid: My mom has a HUGE problem with smoking cigarettes?
This is long but I’d REALLY appreciate your help.
My mom has been smoking since she was 13. She smoked half a pack a day when she was pregnant with my brother and me and tells people she was “so proud she cut down during her pregnancies.” Both of us has extremely low birth weights and were unhealthy as newborns. Idk if her smoking had anything to do with it but my brother had epilepsy.
My family isn’t well off financially. We are lucky if food lasts us up untill my dad’s next paycheck (only my dad and I work) I’m working to save for college and move out hopefully by next summer. Plus I buy my own clothes, pay for nightclass, gas for the cars, and occasionally help with bills. Yesterday my parents had ONE DOLLAR left in their bank account and I just got my paycheck wich was only 7 this time because I didnt get many shifts. She asked if I would buy a carton of cigs for her, and I told her no. That was one of my agreements with them. I’ll help pay for everything BUT their smoking habit. My mom has eczema, and has trouble breathing, chest pains, and sounds like a man when she talks. PLUS I get bullied for smelling like smoke. I did this for their benifit not because I’m greedy with money. She wasn’t even going to pay me back!
She instantly started sobbing and called me a bitch, tried putting me on a guilt trip by saying “Ohh I’ll just dig through the garbage at home and find some leftovers!” And she said she has to go without everything, she has nothing to be happy about unless she smokes, etc. And then she slapped me. After calling around to borrow some $ with no success, she bought some anywas and now has an overdraft fee. I’m SOOO fed up with this. When I don’t give her cig money she goes beserk and talks bad about me to people. If she goes a day without smoking she’ll cry, start shaking, rock back and fourth. She acts like a junkie that needs their heroin fix. And she’s mad I don’t let her smoke in my car. Once she told me she cried and cussed out the nurses at the hospital when she was in labor because they wouldn’t let her smoke.
Both of my parents smoke and I’d like them to quit. They’ve told me every year now they will and never do. Last night my mom told me she dosen’t have the strength to quit. I need advice. What can I do? ![]()
To the second answer, maybe I should add that I am 17 and still in highschool. Did you also read I was SAVING UP TO MOVE OUT?

Answer by Kinsey
My mom is the SAME way about her cigs. She spends so much money on them b/c she smokes a pack a day. Half the time we are short on rent (we split it) b/c she can’t come up with her share. She always just expects me to buy her cigs or she gets really awful, like even violent. I can’t tolerate it. I hate smelling like smoke too! I work so hard to keep the house clean and she just puffs away. She always overdrafts money to buy cigs too. UGH!
Quitting can be done. I smoked for 3 years and quit cold turkey. I haven’t smoked in a month. It isn’t as bad as people say, you just have to have willpower and maybe some respect for others! It’s a selfish habit…
Good luck…Sorry I didn’t really help but there is nothing you can do to make her quit unfortunately.

When getting sick from binge drinking and smoking, how long does it last and what are the effects?
Aug 30th
Question by Rascal: When getting sick from binge drinking and smoking, how long does it last and what are the effects?
For someone who has been social binge drinking and smoking cigarettes every friday and saturday night (5 drinks or more per Fri/Sat night) for about 4 years, what can be the effects?
I was living this lifestyle and i have been feeling unwell for nearly 3 months. I have been going through feelings of lightheadedness, dullness, drowsiness, lowsyness, fatigue, muscle weakness & anxiety. I feel as if im high & “not part of this world”…
First thing i got was an ear infection, followed by chronic gastritis/stomach ulcers, then my right vestibular nerve was found to be weak.
I have seen a few doctors and specialists and they have informed me that most things are all normal. All blood tests showed normal results. The only thing abnormal was my liver ALT *83 and ferritin *395 which is slowly decreasing.
I have stopped alcohol & cigarettes completely ever since i was unwell. Is it possible to be having some withdrawal symptoms even if i wasn’t addicted to drinking or smoking?
I’ve seen a Neurologist and an ENT surgeon who say everything is fine.
I guess what i’d like to find out if the way i was living my life before has caused me to feel ill?
If anyone has gone through this, how long did these feelings last?
I keep thinking that something else triggered this like a virus or something, but my lifestyle before makes me think that these are the consequences of my actions.
By the way, i was only a social smoker not an everyday smoker.

Sure, I know plenty of people who’ve done exactly the same thing. They’re still alive and kicking because they are now taking good care of their bodies. That’s all you need to do buddy. You’re just run down and tired and obviously not nourishing your body properly. When you get stuck in one of those partying/bingeing modes you tend to not eat or sleep properly and just focus on partying and drinking/smoking. Well now that you’ve cleaned up your act you also need to remember to feed and nourish your body, that’s why you keep coming down with all sorts of ailments.
First up – are you drinking plenty of fresh clean vital water?? You need to at least be drinking 8 – 10 glasses of water per day. If you’re drinking coffee/tea/soft drinks/sodas you need to replace coffees and teas with x 2 the amount of water just to get back to ground zero !! As far as sodas and soft drinks go for each can you drink you have to replace 8 – 12 glasses of water that the sodas cause your body to lose, very dehydrating !! You would be totally amazed at the different mind set you will have just by being properly hydrated !!
It also sounds like you have a Vitamin B12 deficiency. Symptoms of deficiency in this vitamin are irritability inability to concentrate, moodiness, dizziness, depression, chest pains, heart palpitations, head and hand sweats, headaches, migraines, fatigue and exhaustion, oily skin and impaired balance !! Sound familiar??
Well, have you been under added stress lately? Most likely by the sounds of it. In stressfull situations we need to increase our intake of the B vitamins complex.
Wow, you poor guy, how have you managed for the last 3 months and feeling so ill?? All you need to do is to go the chemist and ask the pharmacist to advise you on which brand of the multi B complex of vitamins (ie: containing all the B vitamins) would be a good quality brand to buy. Avoid synthetic vitamins as they are really hard to digest. If you take this excellent advice, which is the best you will get!! No, seriously I definitely know what I’m talking about here. You will get relief from most of your symptoms within 24 hours !! Your body is obviously dehydrated – lightheadness, drowsiness and screaming out for water and food – fatigue, sore and tired muscles, stress, etc.etc.etc.
You also need to increase your intake of foods rich in this vitamin ie: yeast, liver, eggs, milk, cheese and fish, kidney and pork.
Recommended daily intake for adults is 2mcg. For B12 to be properly assimilated through the stomach it is necessary to be combined with calcium during absorption to adequately benefit the body.
In the human diet B12 is supplied primarily by animal products, since plant products usually don’t contain it.
B12 vitamins will alleviate any chest pains or heart palpitations you may be having?? it will also increase your energy levels, maintain a healthy nervous system, relieve moodiness and irritability, ease depression, fatigue and exhaustion and improve concentration, memory and balance.
Therefore, you’re surely deficient in B2 (Riboflavin) as well. Do you also have sore lips, mouth and tongue, cracked and splitting skin around your fingernails and grainy and sandy feeling eyes? If so, this is also a vitamin B deficiency, vitamin B2 (Riboflavin). This vitamin will be included in the Multi B complex supplement that you buy. There’s nothing mysterious about multi B complex tablets either, just in case you were wondering. They’re simply vitamins, and no they’ve not got chemicals/toxins or anything addictive in them just life enhancing vitamins. Well, in your case mate, life saving vitamins !! I’m truly so glad that you decided to come on line and ask us if anyone could help you. There really are so many wackos out there, you just got lucky though cos I’m a mother of 3 with a workaholic husband and I’m very experienced in most areas of health and nutrition. Plus I’m in the process of studying to be a naturopath, lucky you…. hehehe…… :0)
Sorry, I digress, just trying to reassure you. It appears that no Doctor has so far been able to help you so far, believe me I’ve had my fair share of quacks too !!
The recommended daily intake for B2 is 1.2 – 1.7mg.
Foods rich in B2 are milk, liver, kidney, cheese, leafy, green vegies, fish, eggs, yoghurt and beans.
If you are a vegetarian and have excluded eggs and dairy products from your diet, then you need B12 supplementation. Heavy protein consumers also need extra amounts of this vitamin. B12 and B2 work synergistically with all the other B vitamins, hence my advice to get yourself a B complex vitamin supplement.
Please treat your body nicely, you’re the only one who has to live there, at least make it comfortable !! Try focusing on fresh fruits and vegies, wholegrain breads and cereals, seeds and nuts, cut back on dairy, eat lean meats and fish and poultry and eliminate SUGAR because it has no nutritional purpose and will only hinder your recovery anyway.
Good Luck, please let me know how you go………… :0)
**************
P.S. Any damage you may have caused to your lungs, kidneys, vital organs is obviously minimal otherwise the specialists you have seen would certainly have told you about it. Also, whether you think you were addicted to alcohol and cigarettes or not isn’t the issue. Wot is the issue is that you will also have been detoxing the past three months and so all those yummy little chemicals/toxins that were in your system have all been racing out together !! Dont fret, things will start to get better from now on in. So long as you take ALL my advice …………….. :0)
PEACE & LIGHT

Quit Smoking Cigarettes – How to Stop Part 3
Jan 9th
In part 1 and part 2 of this article series, we have discussed how the reasons a person started smoking at an early age helped to build the psychological smoking mechanism. This mechanism begins to operate beyond conscious control because the smoker has long since forgotten why they started smoking. The first part of the process to remove smoking is to use special techniques to recall these early reasons. After that is done, it is time to look at the reasons a person continues to smoke.
It’s Hard to Smoke Each Cigarette
Smokers don’t consciously realize how hard it is to smoke. This is because the psychological smoking mechanism has faded into the Subconscious. It runs automatically each time a cigarette is smoked. The mind pushes all complex learned tasks into the subconscious. An example with which most people can relate is driving a car. When you first learn to drive, it is an almost overwhelming task. So many things to do, just to operate the automobile and then, you have to watch where you are going and what other drivers are doing! This is very stressful. However, eventually, all this fades into the Subconscious. It’s still just as hard, but it has become automatic so your consciousness isn’t overwhelmed. The same thing happens to the complex psychological smoking mechanism.
Still the difficulty of smoking is evident. If you look at the face of a smoker, you can see the strain each time they take a drag. The face tenses and the eyes usually squint. It’s the same facial expression a weight lifter has trying to lift a heavy weight. Yet, at the conscious level, the smoker has pushed this aside; it is ignored. However it is there with each cigarette and during the course of the day, the more cigarettes smoked, the more tired the smoker becomes. This is why, when a smoker manages to stop, they feel that they have so much more energy! It’s not that they have more, it’s that they’re not wasting it fueling the psychological smoking mechanism.
The Conscious Reaction to the Difficult Effort to Smoke Each Cigarette
Although the conscious mind ignores the extreme effort to smoke, it still registers at some level. This causes the smoker to feel the need to justify why they smoke. The next part of the process is to identify these reasons. Since these reasons are also faded into the Subconscious and not examined, special techniques have to be used to retrieve them. This is what The Unlearn Smoking Success System(tm) does in Part 2 of the program.
Smokers Really Don’t Like to Smoke
If you ask a smoker why they smoke, they will likely say, they like it. Yet, if you look at their behavior, it’s clear they don’t. For example, how many times have you seen a person smoking in their car in rainy weather, with the window rolled down to keep the cigarette away? With either the cigarette outside or the window cracked and the cigarette by the opening? If they liked it, why isn’t it in the closed car with them?
The truth is, most smokers don’t like smoking but the psychological mechanism they created years ago compels them to smoke. To justify doing what they don’t really like, they rationalize benefits of smoking. How can they do this?
By Association
It has been known since the early days of Psychology that by pairing things together, they become associated. The more emotion behind it, the stronger the association. For example, suppose your parents drive a particular model of car. Each time you see this car, you think of your parents. Even though it is not your parents and not their car; you have the association in your mind.
A smoker builds their catalog of rationalizations in the same way. Let’s examine a few of them.
To Reduce a Feeling of Anxiety or Nervousness
One of the rationalizations a smoker uses as to why they smoke is that it reduces a feeling of anxiety or nervousness. In other words, they claim it calms them down. But how can pulling hot, polluted smoke loaded with a stimulant deep into their sensitive lungs reduce anxiety or nervousness?
The answer is simple: It DOESN’T!
If you are a smoker and use this rationalization, it is an association from your WILL POWER suppressing the normal body defense reaction that allows you to smoke a cigarette. When you pull the smoke into your system, YOU are using your MIND to suppress or stop the normal coughing, choking and burning reaction to the hot polluted smoke from the cigarette entering your delicate lungs. You are WILLING yourself into a state of calm; calming down the body defense system.
So rather than the cigarette calming you down, you are doing it yourself as a side-effect so you can tolerate the cigarette. It’s not the cigarette, it is the association. YOUR MIND is doing this because you have commanded it to do so. Do you realize you can be calm and relaxed without the cigarette? YOU CAN!
The other reasons on the list that fall into this category are: to calm down when upset or angry, when feeling restless, as relaxation, to take a break from work, when feeling depressed, to celebrate something, and to think about a difficult problem. All these reasons, all these effects, are the result of you using your MIND to put a major calm on your body to tolerate the cigarette. You have given the cigarette benefits it didn’t earn. Benefits caused by your MIND!
While Having Coffee
Another reason people give for smoking has to do with eating or drinking. This again is a typical association that has nothing to do with the effects of smoking a cigarette. Doing a pleasurable thing makes you feel good; adding a cigarette brings in the super MIND over BODY calm that you have developed and enhances the good feeling. Once again, it is not the cigarette, this is the mechanism of body suppression that you have developed. Over time, rather than giving yourself credit for the results, you misdirect the credit to the cigarette.
Other pleasurable associations are: When having a drink with friends, after a meal, after sex and when drinking beer, wine or liquor. All of these actions make the body feel good from the relaxing effect of alcohol, the good feeling of satisfying your hunger, or the release of sexual fulfillment. The cigarette has nothing to do with these things. It is a normal body reaction to fulfillment that is enhanced by the super calm YOUR MIND imposes over your body so you can tolerate the cigarette. It is YOU doing this, NOT the cigarette!
Conclusion
Examining objectively the reasons a person gives to continue to smoke is a necessary part of the process to dismantle the psychological smoking mechanism. Using psychological techniques, a person is able to identify and examine these reasons. When they do so, they find that they are giving the cigarette benefits it didn’t earn. With each benefit they remove, the psychological smoking mechanism becomes weaker and the effort to smoke becomes greater.
If you don’t dismantle the psychological smoking mechanism, it will always be there urging you to smoke. This is why it is so hard to stop smoking just by quitting. This is why people quit and start smoking over and over. Get rid of the mechanism and you get rid of smoking. It’s a simple psychological fact.
The next article in the series will discuss why smokers ignore the serious health consequences of smoking.
