What are the symptoms associated with GHB drug addiction?
Oct 23rd
Question by smart alec: What are the symptoms associated with GHB drug addiction?
I’ve been using GHB for several months now and I’m wondering if I’m addicted to it or not. See, the reason why I’m taking GHB capsules is because it helps me sleep. That’s it. It has been helping me deal with my sleeping problem and it has been giving me just the right kind of comfort that I need. The thing is, lately I’ve been experiencing breathing difficulties. I’ve also been feeling nauseous a lot. Now, I’m starting to think that I’m getting the negative effects of it. Am I addicted to GHB?

I think there is a good chance that you’re already addicted to it because you’ve already experienced two of it’s symptoms. The first is your breathing problems and the second is the nauseous feeling. The other symptoms of GHB addiction include vision problems, vomiting, decreased heart rate, tremors, seizures, headaches, agitation, insomnia, drowsiness, weakness, unconsciousness and a very dreamy feeling. If you’ve experienced some of the symptoms I’ve listed, then you are addicted to GHB. Please be careful. If you have sleeping problems, I think the best that you can do is to consult a doctor about it. It was rather foolish of you to try a drug without a doctor’s prescription because it might be harmful to you.

Q&A: Am I an alcoholic? What are the physical symptoms of alcoholism?
Jun 28th
Question by SHELTIELUVER: Am I an alcoholic? What are the physical symptoms of alcoholism?
I drink 3-4 times a week but lately more frequently. I don’t wake up craving alcohol though. It’s always later in the day, usually after work. I drink about a 6-pack and a pint of Rum over several hours. I do often don’t remember what I’ve done and I’ve done some embarassing things. I’ve also become very agressive lately when drinking when I always was a happy drinker. LUCKILY, I always have a sober driver. Lately, I’ve been very edgy and nervous. I get angry at the drop of a pin. I’m scared that I need help. Are there meds. that help if I quit with your nerves? I don’t want to go to a rehab because I don’t have insurance and I don’t want to lose my job. I also have an anxiety problem to begin with and take Xanax for my nerves. I know the combo. of Xanax and alcohol is bad and makes the alcohol much stronger. Oh, I’m a woman in my early 30′s. I’m 5’7 and 125 lbs. so I’m not a big person who has a huge tolerance although it seems like it sometimes.

Alcoholism – Learn About Alcoholism Symptoms, Stages And How Are Alcoholism Treated
Jan 28th
Alcoholism
Alcoholism interventions should be carefully planned and developed by professional substance abuse counselors who are experienced in such procedures. The most essential purpose of an alcoholism intervention is to get the alcoholic to seek professional alcohol addiction treatment.

Alcohol. Friend or foe?
High levels of alcohol consumption can lead to physical illness and psychological and social distress. Alcohol has therefore always had an ambivalent position in society.
In moderation, it can be the oil that makes a social occasion go with a bit more flow or helps a shy person overcome their inhibitions.
Small, regular amounts of alcohol also seem to have a positive effect on the heart and circulation. But too much alcohol is often a recipe for disaster.
The increasing use of alcohol, along with other drugs of abuse, is a serious public health problem across all age ranges, but especially so in the young.
What is alcohol dependence?
Alcoholism, or alcohol dependence is a medical term with a deliberately more precise meaning than the problems that can occur, sometimes as one-offs, through an uncharacteristic binge.
In alcohol dependence a number of features come together in the behaviour of the person affected.
- Withdrawal symptoms such as anxiety and tremor develop after a short period without a drink, and are reduced by taking more alcohol.
- Tolerance develops, so it takes more alcohol to produce drunkenness.
- Drinking begins to take priority over other activities. It becomes a compulsion.
Often alcohol dependence remains undetected for years. Both the availability of alcohol and the way it is used (the social patterns) appear to be major factors in influencing the likelihood of a person becoming alcohol dependent.
There may also be a genetic component, because alcohol dependence clusters in some families. However, it’s hard to be sure that this is not because of learned behaviour.
Alcoholism Symptoms – First Stage
The following represents some of the alcoholism symptoms and behaviors in the first stage of alcoholism:
- Increasing tolerance;
- A conscious effort to seek out more drinking opportunities;
- Gross Drinking Behavior – more frequent drinking of greater amounts;
- Boasting and a “big shot” complex;
- An ability to drink great amounts of alcohol without any apparent impairment;
- Lack of recognition by the person that he or she is in the early stages of a progressive illness.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), each year in the United States, between 1,300 and 8,000 babies are born with fetal alcohol syndrome (FAS). Fetal alcohol syndrome is a combination of physical and mental birth defects that affects about 6% of the babies born to women who are alcohol abusers or alcoholics.

Strokes – Symptoms and Therapy
Jan 7th
The freestyle swimming stroke was thought to have originated in Australia which is partially true. The stroke used to be called the “Australian Crawl” because competitive swimmers from Australia were winning events with this stroke. It is said the freestyle was originally from the pacific islands possibly the Solomon’s.
There is a story which is probably true about a boy from the Solomon Islands who went to work in Australia in the 1800′s. He used to swim in one of the local pools using this stroke and someone pointed out that it looked like he was crawling. A swim coach took the basics of this stroke and refined it to what is the freestyle of today. The Australians were winning races with this stroke and the world took notice.
Stroke Symptoms
A stroke is characterized by significant disruption of the blood flow to the brain which may lead to a decrease in the incoming blood supply. When this happens the brain tissue will be deprived of oxygen and the necessary nutrients. After short while, brain cells will be progressively killed. It is therefore a medical emergency that requires immediate assessment and treatment to improve the chances of recovery. When early treatment is implemented the impairment to the brain is drastically decreased and any other complications that may occur can be avoided.
Fortunately, strokes can be adequately treated. In recent times, far less people will die from experiencing a stroke. This may be related to a better understanding of why strokes may materialize in the first place. Factors like high blood pressure, smoking and high cholesterol when controlled will dramatically decrease the chances of developing a stroke. Consequently with this knowledge most individuals are able to lower their individual risk which in turn lessens the total number of strokes that may occur.
Aside from that there are some things you can do to help prevent stroke. If you have had heart problems your doctor may prescribe blood thinners such as coumadin or aspirin to help prevent blood clotting. Low dose aspirin is prescribed for many who have had a heart attack. This is a dose of 325mg per day of aspirin or less. This is often sufficient to help greatly in preventing blood clots and stroke. Appropriate aerobic exercise for your state of health is very important. Your doctor can suggest a suitable program.
A recently published medical report which reviewed nine studies including nearly 200,000 people determined that drinking three cups of black or green tea per day reduced stroke risk by 21 percent. drinking six cups per day reduced stroke risk by yet another 21 percent.
Stroke, which commonly refers to hemiplegia, can cause weakness or paralysis on one side of the body. Impaired sensation and muscular co-ordination, speech and language problems, impaired control over bladder and bowel, emotional labiality and cognitive defects are the common after effects of stroke. Stroke rehabilitation is very important in order to enable the affected person to achieve self-sufficiency to the maximum extent possible.
People who have had a stroke are at an increased risk of having another stroke, especially within one year. It is important to continue medications to control blood pressure, cholesterol and diabetes. Smoking and alcohol should be stopped completely. The Ayurvedic treatment for the rehabilitation of stroke patients is aimed at speeding up the recovery process and reducing long term disability. Treatment during the acute paralytic stage is best done in a hospital. Once the patient has been discharged from hospital, Ayurvedic treatment should be initiated at the earliest, in order to derive maximum benefit.
Alcohol Addiction Symptoms and Signs
Jan 6th
Alcohol is a word that appears so much in our daily lives and culture that it is difficult for a non-alcoholic to imagine a life of alcohol addiction. Yet, no matter how much one may despise the term and the addiction, psychiatrists describe an alcoholic as one who exhibits any or all of these qualities: an irresistible thirst for alcohol, total loss of control once he or she starts drinking, and a certain tendency of relapse into the addiction after a session of rehabilitation.
Effects of alcohol: Alcohol dependency can have serious and deleterious effects on the individual’s health, and more importantly, on the family.
Some of the physical effects of alcohol addiction are liver cirrhosis; damage to the nervous system and pancreas, heart disease, alcoholic neuritis, and sexual dysfunction and related disorders, any of which can be a cause of death in the alcohol addict.
By far, the greatest reason for which alcohol is considered a social evil is the effect it has on the family. Children of Alcoholics (COAs) experience the effects of having an alcoholic parent or sibling from the earliest stages of their upbringing. Alcoholic parents are proven beyond doubt to be vastly inferior as caregivers.
Most alcoholic parents generally discourage their children from socializing. They are known to be unpredictable, volatile and inconsistent in dealing with children. They transmit most of the symptoms of their addiction to their children, who suffer psychosomatic ailments like depression, headache, eating disorders, stomach upsets and insomnia. COAs are almost certain to develop learning disabilities.
Worst of all, these negative influences and effects grow into their adulthood, since childhood impacts emotional development of later life greatly. Such children normally have tendencies like fretfulness, undue nervousness and maladjustment with society, and usually become unsuccessful parents themselves.
It is common to find that the education of such children gets disrupted because huge portions of the family income get spent on alcohol consumption by the addict in the family. When these children, bereft of love, try to find other avenues from which they can fill this lacuna at home, there are good chances of their ending up looking for the missing emotional comfort with the wrong people. This can lead to further family and social tensions. They could find solace in such habits as drugs or alcohol itself, or worse, crime.
Domestic violence, one of the most important products of alcoholism, costs the American economy anywhere between $ three billion and $ 10 billion a year by way of losses caused by absenteeism, healthcare costs, reduced employee turnover and so on.
Withdrawal symptoms: these can often lead to various complications. These include nausea, sweating, nausea and continuous shaking of the hands.
Addiction treatment programs: alcoholism addiction treatment programs take up long term, step-by-step methods in helping the addict deal with the addiction. A detox center first rids the body of the toxins the addiction would have brought in.
Drug and alcohol rehab centers try to inculcate coping techniques in the addict. A treatment center comes up with detailed counseling, supportive programs and encourages interaction with self help groups. Some rehabs encourage harm-reduction techniques such as group therapy, psychotherapy, medication, rationing and moderation of the drink and nutritional supplementation.
Common Flu Symptoms and How to Manage Them
Jan 5th
Before we talk about flu symptoms and how to manage them, lets first look at the difference between colds and flu. Common cold symptoms may include one or more of the following symptoms:
- nose discharge
- stuffed up feeling
- cough
- sore throat
- headache
With flu, you may experience any or all of the above symptoms, but you’ll also have:
- a fever or chills
- body aches or pains
- and possibly gastrointestinal disturbances
You can see straight away, by the symptoms, that flu is more serious than a cold. You wouldn’t get a fever unless your body was responding to something that wants to greatly disturb it.
A fever in itself is a good thing. It means your body is dealing effectively with throwing out the pathogen that is trying to gain entry. The more violent the fever, the more healthy you are. The milder the fever, the weaker you are – your body just doesn’t have the energy to fight.
Imagine someone trying to break in to your house. If you are prepared and indignant, chances are you’ll put up a powerful fight and win. If you are unprepared and feel vulnerable, chances are you’ll not fight at all and the burglar will probably get away with what he came for, possibly hurting you in the process.
Preparing your body for pathogen invasions means allowing things to take their course. Children are not born with an immune system. They need to practice by catching mild diseases.
Do you remember the chicken pox (and other childhood diseases) parties where people would bring their child to catch it? That’s what it was all about.
Today, in the vaccine laden world, this concept is no longer fashionable. But it is the best way for children’s immune system to become strong.
By experience.
Let them catch colds. Let them develop flu symptoms. Just keep an eye on things and be prepared to seek professional advice if you think it’s necessary.
A few days in bed may be all that is necessary. And when a child has recovered from an illness, without any suppressive drugs, you can often see a growth spurt. They needed that experience to evolve.
And they’ll become healthier adults, as a result.
Back to flu symptoms.
So you have a fever.
But you’ll also likely to have body aches. This can take the form of muscle aches or bone aches. Only you can feel the difference.
In addition to a fever and body aches, you may also have gastrointestinal symptoms. Perhaps in the form of nausea or vomiting or diarrhoea.
Digestion takes a huge amount of energy, so when you are very unwell, you will not feel hungry. This is because the energy it takes to digest is needed elsewhere.
The old saying of ‘starve a fever’ is very sound advice. Never try to force feed anyone who is acutely ill.
But continue to drink plenty.
Seek professional advice if it continues more than a couple of days without showing signs of improvement.
Homeopathic medicines work with the body, rather than suppressing its symptoms. This means you can effectively deal with your flu symptoms with a specific homeopathic medicine for your type of flu. This will speed up the process, without causing damage.
