Everything has changed with them since i married!HELP!?

Question by Hollie: Everything has changed with them since i married!HELP!?
I am a newlywed and got married to my husband whom i was dating for 3 years. We decided to elope as my family & friends didn’t agree with me getting married to a rich Portuguese man of my dreams. He treats me like i am the only person in the world that matters & to him nothing is ever good enough for me and i love him so much, i can not imagine my life without him. He wants me to move to Portugal as he is working there at the moment and he normally travels for work so he wants me with him permanently. I hate when i am not with him, i am totally head over heals with him. My best friend was always there for me and i was there for him when he was battling coming clean from heroin. We grew up together and as my mom is a junkie & my dad is in prison and i am an only child, he was the only real family i had as well as my close friends. They hated the fact that i was going to move away and get married, everyone of them had a opinion about it and it is driving me crazy. When i said i got married they where all in shock and then said they couldn’t believe i got married without them being there. It feels like they can do what they like but i cant & i was always there for them. I feel like i have drifted away from my best friends but i cant stand anyone who talks crap about the man i love. How do i deal with this, i don’t want to leave things on bad terms when i go.
Thanks

does forgiving past issues with family necessarily mean having to build a relationship with them?

Question by Saphira: does forgiving past issues with family necessarily mean having to build a relationship with them?
Hello
I am a 21 year old female. I grew up in a very abusive and dysfunctional family due to an alcoholic parent’s addiction. Well anyways, to make it quick, I grew up with several mental problems due to the verbal, physical, and emotional abuse from all family members, I played the role as the “lost child.” Now all of a sudden everyone in the family seems to be acting like they all of a sudden care about me and each other, and somehow the most abusive family members are acting all nice. I must say, I am willing to forgive, but a relationship with my family is something I DO NOT want. I do not feel comfortable after all these years of mental disturbance and abuse, and I don’t feel connected to any one of them except my mother. I don’t want to speak much or be around them anymore. I have PTSD from all the domestic violence as a child, and I do believe it is quite possibly going to be a lifelong mental problem as directed by my doctor. I feel a relationship just isn’t going to work and I do not trust anyone, no matter how “nice” they act with me. Is this something normal? is it necessary to have to have a relationship just because I forgive? if anyone has any solutions please help, any answers are appreciated.
**note: I am religious if anyone has any help in that aspect

I wont get into debate about if its good or bad, though I personally think its fucked to endoctrinate people in their weakest moments, but, is there an organixation who really helps? even if you must pay.

Talk to your doctor – they have a wealth of non-religious based health advice and services – and if they push spiritualism on you, find a new doctor

Do some laws “encourage” people to break them?

Question by tarokahn: Do some laws “encourage” people to break them?
for example Cigarettes and Alcohol have become a “right of passage” in the US. Kids want to be “grown up” and smoking or drinking facilitates that for them, also it gives them an easy way to rebell. Also other drugs, Pot, Crack, Coke, Speed, all of these things are illegal and because they are people are dying over them. I say if someone wants to smoke pot let them, if they want to be a heroin junkie rather than a productive member of society then give them a handfull of drugs and needles and let them go OD somewhere.

It’s more about the dangerousness of the drugs. For example, you can get alcohol poisoning the first time you drink and die. Cigarettes are highly addictive, and cause cancer. You can do too much crack or coke and die as well, and speed makes your heart beat faster, which could cause you to have a heart attack. There are reasons these drugs are illegal.
And, honestly, I would rather NOT have someone being a junkie out there strung out on heroin or crack or whatever their drug of choice is, they are dangers to society.
What happens if someone is strung out on crack and they rob a store and kill someone? It happens more than you might think.
Drugs are illegal and will remain illegal for a reason.

Since religion is given to people to keep them law abiding why not give heroin to junkies for the same reason?

Question by Desiree: Since religion is given to people to keep them law abiding why not give heroin to junkies for the same reason?
Junkies are notorious for turning to illegal activities to support their addiction to heroin. There’s actually a trial going in Sweden (or Switzerland?) now where junkies referred by a doctor are given their daily or weekly dose of heroin and apparently the petty crime and prostitution rates have noticeably dropped since the trial began. Do you think this is a moral issue? Can you see the US ever adopting a similar strategy, to allow people to live in a drug induced haze for the rest of their lives in order to keep them law abiding? And when you think about it, how is this that different from using religion to achieve the same result?

No. Religion does not keep anyone law abiding. However, Jesus has the Words of Salvation and Eternal Life

Home Remedies For Dry Skin: Some of Them Are More Than Old Wives’ Tales, as Fuller Brush Knows
Jan 6th
“So what home remedies for dry skin would you recommend?” Natasha asked Charlie, as she padded out of her bedroom holding a Fuller Brush toothbrush in her hand. “I mean, they’re all nuts, right? Old wives’ tales if you ask me.”
Charlie shrugged.
“There’s a ring of truth to the ones that are still around today,” he insisted.
His roommate stepped towards him and poked him in the chest as she responded:
“They’re all hoopla, my friend!”
“Hoopla?” he responded.
“They’re all marketing gimmicks. The best anti-wrinkle creams – if you ask me, and you didn’t – but the best anti-wrinkle creams on the market are actually sold as hemorrhoid creams.”
“Hemorrhoid creams?” he repeated, wrinkling his own face.
“You gotcha!” Natasha poked him once more for good measure.
“Alright, first of all, what did I tell you about personal space?” Charlie asked her. “You cannot flirt with me and give me the impression that you like me – as you usually do – because it hurts me right here.” He touched his chest.
She took a theatrical step back, and looked down at her tee shirt and legs as if making sure she was not invading his space. Then she pointed to the gap between her eyebrows.
“Look,” she said, and he saw the patch of dry skin. “How do I fix this without using one of your stupid home remedies for dry skin?”
“You and me have known each other since when? Middle school?” Charlie asked her.
She nodded, adding: “And then some.”
“And then some. And have I ever given you bad advice?”
She pouted and shook her head.
“I’ve never steered you wrong, right?”
“No, Charlie. But what are you going to give me to clear up my dry skin?”
“Witch hazel lotion,” he declared. He pulled open the bathroom door and she followed him in. He opened the cabinet above the sink and took out the container of Fuller Brush lotion.
“Witch hazel!” she shrieked, and she then cackled like a witch. “It even sounds like something out of the seventeenth century!”
“A lot of these so-called home remedies, as you call them,” Charlie began. “You take Saint John’s Wort, or Valerian root, or lavender – take your pick, Tash – these are still popular today because they actually work. Now I’m not some dippy hippy, alright? I’m not a member of the yogurt mad bean curd brigade.”
She laughed.
“I work a nine to five job,” he continued. “…where I have to be clean shaven. I have to shave every day, and one of those home remedies for dry skin that you baulk at is this Fuller Brush witch hazel lotion. Just try it, alright?”
She looked at him in the mirror, put his arms around his shoulders and smiled. They looked at each other’s reflections.
“Alright, I’ll give it a go.”
“Tash, you’re breaking my heart here.”
“Huh?” She looked at him in the mirror.
“Personal space?”
She pecked him on the cheek.
“You love it really,” she said.
