Is there anything I can do? I feel so useless.?

Question by mybestfriendeleida: Is there anything I can do? I feel so useless.?
My cousin is a heroin (or former) addict and he’s over the age of 18 already. His parents, our whole family, has been doing and trying everything and I mean EVERYTHING! to help him stop and live his life again and have a good future. Now it seems he’s stopped after going to rehab twice but, a while back he told his parents he refused to stay in the rehab place to make sure he wouldn’t go back to drugs. Well, they couldn’t force him to stay being an adult and all. So everyone is wishing the best for him while he goes and lives with this friend he met at the rehab place who also was a junkie, but sometimes I have this bad feeling about something happening and maybe that he isn’t really okay. I was never really close to him honestly and he was always such a quiet guy (until he started using which I sort of liked that he was talking more now). But he has the kindest heart I have ever seen!!!! My mom called him on his cell a few days back to see how he was doing but…..nothing. I just want to get more involved and know more about where he is and if he’s okay and maybe hang out with him sometime just so I could feel a little important and tell him how I feel.(But that’s pretty much impossible for soooooooo many reasons!) Well is there anything that I can do in my part to show him I love him???????

If you want to get more involved why not volunteer at your local rehab clinic, if they accept volunteers. Your cousin may not want people to know where he is or if he’s okay because he may be trying to get himself back on his feet, get a job and do something with himself.

I also wonder if your feelings for him have not so much to do with him per se, but more to do with you.

What about these people? Is there any hope?

Question by Tommy Thompson: What about these people? Is there any hope?
I feel very strongly about about a biased view that people have that certain things cannot change. Please hear me out on this. I may cause a little stir but I cannot stand hearing things like this.

EXAMPLE: A man is sexually abused and beaten as a young boy for many years by family members. Lives in poverty. He has to cook his own meals, do his own laundry, and basically care for himself. He is sexually abused by other family members as he gets older. His father is an alcoholic. He starts to think the only way to get attention is through sexual contact with others. So he grows up thinking that he must have sex with other boys. This continues into adulthood and he ends up molesting and abusing boys just as he was.

Many people are quick to say this person must be locked up and thrown away forever. I have a sensitive place in my heart for people such as this and want to provide help for them to rehabilitate their lives. What they did as an adult is wrong but I believe they can chan

being gay and this is totally different. I’m bisexual and have no desire to molest children. Homosexuality and sexual abuse of children are not the same thing.
The therapy that is used for treatment, does this include any religious or faith based therapy? If not, could that be part of why it is not successful?
Chantal – thanks.
I Speak Truth – thanks
Thank you so much for your answer God is Love….this story in Matthew is a great example of what I’m talking about.
repent – I didn’t say that no gays abuse children, just don’t associate homosexuality with child abuse. There are many heterosexuals that abuse children sexually also. This isn’t about adult sexual preference, it is about a condition and problem of emotional and psychological trauma to both adults and children. It isn’t about heterosexuality vs. homosexuality.
rebel rouser-good question. I quess I made it that way because when I was a kid I was abused by a male so that was the first thing that came to my mind. In the media I hear mostly about men abusing boys more than anything else. I guess that is what sells. I know there is a lot more than that going on but that is just what I hear the most.

I’d feel sorry and pity for them, but even so, I think they should get help. Not being locked up and thrown away into non-existance. Thats cruel and inhumane.

Be thankful you exist!

Is there any medications to help recovering from damaged brain by the alcoholism?

Question by davegesprek: Is there any medications to help recovering from damaged brain by the alcoholism?
It looks like my brain may have been damaged by alcoholism.

Is there any medication to help repairing my brain?

What are the names?

Or do you suggest any vitamins?

Thanks!

Best answer:

Answer by majnun99
B vitamins are good, Niacin and Thiamine in particular. Alcoholics often have Thiamine deficiencies from what I’ve heard.

I doubt if you have any serious brain damage, though. Your spelling is excellent and you had only one minor grammatical error in your question.

If you seriously think you might have that problem, maybe you should talk to a doctor.

Alcoholism-is there an over-the-counter med/supplement/herbal remedy to fight withdrawal symptoms?

Question by king_b_22_408: Alcoholism-is there an over-the-counter med/supplement/herbal remedy to fight withdrawal symptoms?
Reason being is I drink way too much. I was planning on quitting, tonight being the first night. I’ve been noticing symptoms like getting the “shakes” and what-not, so I’m just looking to see if I could get any help today, and not have to wait a week to get in to a real doctor. Any and all help would be appreciated!

mediahoney – point well taken
I’ve seen the statistics and read many, many articles but something in just seems to think that there has just got to be some hope! Is there really no way for a new life? Can people really not change or is it just such a horrible thing that was done that we can’t imagine that they could change?
