Question by chanelle a: How will I convince my friend to undergo drug addiction treatment?
She just won’t budge. I already tried talking to her, but when she starts telling me that heroin makes her happy, I just don’t know what to say next. She’s so stubborn. I wish I knew what to say to her to make her change her mind. Can someone please give me suggestions? I really want to help her.

It’s a good thing that she has someone like you who’s willing to help her. Have you tried talking to her about the harmful effects of heroin? It might open her eyes as to what heroin really does to her body. She has lived a lot of years of her life without heroin, it wouldn’t do her any good to just keep on depending upon it now. It’s not helping her, it’s only ruining her body and her mind. Tell her that she’s better off without the drug. Tell her that heroin is messing with her brain and you want the real her back. You can also get professionals to help you with this. You can call 800-559-9503 to ask for advice. You can also bring in her closest family members and friends to do a drug intervention. I really hope she listens. Good luck and I’ll keep her in my prayers.

Q&A: How come medicines are needed for drug addiction treatment?

Question by clara ic: How come medicines are needed for drug addiction treatment?
I don’t really get what the medications are for.
Best answer:
Answer by citlaly a
In a nutshell, medications help a lot in drug addiction treatment. They help in suppressing withdrawal symptoms. Having symptoms of withdrawal is mainly what makes it hard for a patient to quit doing drugs on his own. Thus, medication that will be able to free the person from these symptoms would matter much. Another reason why medicines are needed for addiction treatment is because it brings the patient’s brain functioning back to normal. It also restores the body to its healthy state.

Question by carmen_n: How will I get my friend to undergo drug addiction treatment?
She’s so stubborn. She won’t budge. She says heroin makes her happy and that I’m not a real friend because I’m trying to take away what makes her happy. What do I do? I don’t know what to say to her, but I don’t want to just give up and let her do whatever she wants because I know this is bad for her.

You can always do a drug intervention. If you don’t know how to do this on your own, you can get a professional to help you, or call 800-559-9503 to ask for advice. They can also point you in the direction of drug treatment centers. Have you tried explaining the harmful effects of heroin to your friend? Have you tried to get her to see that she’s better off without the drug? She lived without it for years, does she really want to be dependent upon it now? Her happiness does not lie in heroin. It can be found inside her. She only has to make that choice to be optimistic and brave through life with acceptance and openness to all things that may come her way. Get her to see that heroin is not helping her, it’s actually ruining her and her body. Good luck! I’m glad she’s got someone like you who’s so concerned about her.

Anyone know about tryptophan for Alcoholism treatment?

Question by srar: Anyone know about tryptophan for Alcoholism treatment?
I heard it helps with impulse control.

I wouldn’t use this unless it is being prescribed by a doctor or psychiatrist. It is much better to concentrate on good general nutrition, and perhaps a daily vitamin supplement. Alcoholism is a disease of body, mind and spirit, and the best insurance against relapse is involvement with Alcoholics Anonymous.

Q&A: How come drug addiction treatment is needed so that a drug addict will abstain from drug intake?

Question by athziri cc: How come drug addiction treatment is needed so that a drug addict will abstain from drug intake?
Can’t they do it by sheer will power and going cold turkey?
Best answer:
Answer by destiny n
A lot of people think that they can just get off of drugs when they take it because they have strong will power. This is not the case. Will power won’t cut it. This is due to the fact that the body and brain gets accustomed to the presence of the drug. The drug alters brain functioning and the brain gets convinced that the drug is needed by the body. Once the body is deprived of the drug, the body will send signals to the brain that it needs the drug to function. This manifests in the form of withdrawal symptoms. Thus, the individual is forced to continue on with his drug intake. This is why drug addiction treatments are needed. Therapy, counseling, and medication will help individuals conquer their addiction and gradually pave the way to sobriety.

What is alcoholism treatment?

Question by abby j: What is alcoholism treatment?
My husband has been an alcoholic for three years and I have found research findings proving how alcohol affects brain function. I would like to find out how alcoholism can be treated. Please help me find him a good rehab center where he can get alcoholism treatment.

Answer by ana f
You have mentioned how alcoholism affects brain function. I am glad to inform you that the initiative you took to find out the effects of alcoholism is one of the best ways to treat addiction. Education is a powerful tool. Most alcoholics have no idea how much damage they are causing because of this dangerous and ‘unbreakable’ habit.
I suggest that you share with your husband whatever information you might find about alcoholism especially those about how to get alcoholism treatment. Knowing how alcohol can take its toll on his body functions may also convince him to stop drinking.
Overcoming alcoholism will not only require rehab treatment but also the support and understanding of family and friends. Oftentimes, when an alcoholic fails to admit his addiction, an intervention is done between him and his loved ones. This would make the alcoholic realize his problem and eventually accept the fact that he needs treatment.
Aside from undergoing rehab treatment and joining social organizations like Alcoholics Anonymous, self-control is also an effective alcoholism treatment. It would require commitment and discipline to lessen alcohol consumption. Although it may seem difficult for an alcoholic to abstain from drinking, his very self-control may just be the most effective way to make him stay sober.
I wish you and your husband the best.
