The Impact On Children Who Parents Are Alcoholics Or Drug Addicts / Educational Video PSA
Nov 8th
The Impact On Children Who Parents Are Alcoholics Or Drug Addicts / Educational Video PSA. Children in families experiencing alcohol or drug abuse need attention, guidance and support. They may be growing up in homes in which the problems are either denied or covered up. These children need to have their experiences validated. They also need safe, reliable adults in whom to confide and who will support them, reassure them, and provide them with appropriate help for their age. They need to have fun and just be kids. Families with alcohol and drug problems usually have high levels of stress and confusion. High stress family environments are a risk factor for early and dangerous substance use, as well as mental and physical health problems. It is important to talk honestly with children about what is happening in the family and to help them express their concerns and feelings. Children need to trust the adults in their lives and to believe that they will support them. Children living with alcohol or drug abuse in the family can benefit from participating in educational support groups in their school student assistance programs. Those age 11 and older can join Alateen groups, which meet in community settings and provide healthy connections with others coping with similar issues. Being associated with the activities of a faith community can also help. Dependence on alcohol and drugs is our most serious national public health problem. It is prevalent among rich and poor, in all …

Video Game Addiction PSA
Apr 15th
I made this for my COMM489 class at the University of Michigan. If you think you might sound like Mario, here are some questions to ask yourself: (1) salience: Do you frequently play most days? (2) tolerance: Do you frequently play for longer periods of time? (3) euphoria: Do you play for excitement or a ‘buzz’? (4) chasing: Do you play to beat your high score? (5) relapse: Do you make repeated efforts to stop or decrease playing? (6) withdrawal: Do you become restless if you cannot play? (7) conflict: Do you play instead of attending to school/work related activities? (8) conflict: Do you sacrifice social activities to play? If you have answered ‘Yes’ to four or more of these, you may be addicted to video games. Ask someone close to you for help. Questionaire SOURCE: Griffiths and Hunt (1995, 1998)

Anti-Alcohol PSA Video For Teens
Dec 16th
Anti-Alcohol PSA Video For Teens. From the public domain. Alcoholism is a chronic disease that makes your body dependent on alcohol. You may be obsessed with alcohol and unable to control how much you drink, even though your drinking is causing serious problems with your relationships, health, work and finances. It’s possible to have a problem with alcohol, but not display all the characteristics of alcoholism. This is known as alcohol abuse, which means you engage in excessive drinking that causes health or social problems, but you aren’t dependent on alcohol and haven’t fully lost control over the use of alcohol. Although many people assume otherwise, alcoholism is a treatable disease. Medications, counseling and self-help groups are among the therapies that can provide ongoing support to help you recover from alcoholism. Alcoholism is a disease. It is often diagnosed more through behaviors and adverse effects on functioning than by specific medical symptoms. Only 2 of the diagnostic criteria are physiological (those are tolerance changes and withdrawal symptoms). Alcohol abuse and alcoholism are associated with a broad range of medical, psychiatric, social, legal, occupational, economic, and family problems. For example, parental alcoholism underlies many family problems such as divorce, spouse abuse, child abuse and neglect, welfare dependence, and criminal behaviors, according to government sources.

Video Gaming Addiction PSA

FOR AN ENGLISH PROJECT! I will tell you the mark when I get it, I think I did pretty good
Some written information: The target audience in this PSA are gamers typically age 12 or higher. What we try to portray in this PSA is the fact that there are better things to do in your time then video gaming and that video gaming really doesnt bring you anywhere in life. Gamers typically take gaming very seriously and a lot of them choose to do video gaming over other actives that are much more important such as homework and socializing with real people. Video gamers also tend to not see a harm in their massive amount of hours they spend on video gaming. I tried to show in my PSA the silliness of gamers thinking that video gaming will bring them anything. I chose to do this because it will let gamers see how silly it is to consider gaming a priority over school and other friends. I chose the end slogan to be Know your priorities to keep it simple yet effective. This simple slogan is easy to remember and also reminds kids to think about the long run and what their real responsibilities are right now. The main problem associated with video game addiction is the fact that people that have it are in complete denial. They believe that video gaming is a healthy hobby and should be treated like one. Every once in a while there is nothing wrong with playing some video games but we are seeing a huge growing number of kids that think its ok to spend multiple hours every day playing video …
